Have just spent some time trying to sort out the Luddra/Leddra family and add to what I alredy had in my database prior to responding.
The origins of Richard LEDDRA are, at the moment, uncertain.
This is largely due to the fact that no baptism has been found for him of course - but for myself it is also uncertain because of the names of his children.
He named his first child, a daughter, Grace and his first son George.
It was not until his third daughter that he used the name of Honor and then he did not name a son Thomas until his last who was baptised in 1770.
I believe Eleanor PAYNTER was baptised at St Ives in 1725 - daughter of John and Margaret and it is interesting that Richard and Eleanor did not name a son John.
They did use the name Margaret three times.
So what do we have.
- the 'possibility' that Richard was son of Thomas and Honor.
Thomas had two brothers named Richard who both died in infancy so he may well have had an unrecorded son of that name.
Thomas also named his first two children as Mary and George which, I think, is a pointer that Thomas was the son of George LEDDRA and Mary (nee JENNINGS) who had married at St Ives 5th October 1686.
Thomas was baptised 4th August 1689 at St Ives.
Also interesting is that IGI indicates his wife Honor was nee HAMBLY and there was an Honor HAMBLY baptised at St Ives in 1690 - daughter of Emanuell.
The other dilemma is that there were a number of LEDDRAs married at Lelant although there seems to have been no children baptised in that Parish and I can find no children for them at St Ives.
Until we find a Will or some other data to work with I am afraid Richard may have to stay in his current position.
James LEDDRA's wife Sarah CURNOW was baptised at Towednack 2nd January 1763 and was the daughter of Paul CURNOW and Sarah (nee NINNES).
Sarah's brother Paul CURNOW married James LEDDRA's sister Honor at St Ives 26th December 1789. (George LEDDRA witnessed the marriage.)
Paul CURNOW is another who is an uncertainty but I believe him to probably have been the son of Thomas and Martha Curnow who married at Towednack in 1734.
Sarah NINNES was baptised at Towednack 14th October 1733 d/o John NINNES and Jane (nee QUICK).
And now I need to venture into, for me, uncharted territory.
The marriage of Charles LEDDRA.
Can you please tell me more about this?
The only marriage I have for Charles so far is in 1825 at St Ives to Ann VINING.
Was Charles perhaps married twice?
If you can give me a little more information about Charles it would help me.
Meanwhile I will check on a few other details and hopefully be ready for your next.
