Re Jane CURNOW - just noticed a reference in my database that should be posted.
Amongst Jane's siblings was Peter CURNOW who left a Will in 1750.
In my database I have recorded that this Will made reference to two daughters of his sister Jane who appear to have born the name DANIEL.
However I have just checked the online transcript of this Will and there is no mention of these details.
I think I have another copy of this Will (or details from it) so I will need to locate it and check the information.
There is no doubt that I have the reference somewhere so although no details of the marriage to Vivian DANIEL have yet been found I am quite confident of my data.

Just a shot in the dark: One internet "source" ("Fishwicks of West Australia") in reference to Francis Quick, son of Thomas and Zenobia QUICK, states Z`s maiden name as SINOBYL, marr.1619. There are various spellings for the name. D.

That looks suspiciously like a bastardisation of 'Zenobia' to me. I have seen variations for Zenobia such as Cynobis amongst others so Sinobyl might as well be added to it. A 'shot in the dark' would be right because no one has ever been able to determine Zenobia's maiden name. A bit like the Will of (I think) John Baragwanath of 1660 where someone found the name of his wife - JORDAINE. Very unusual name. But a good look at the Will with a practised eye shows just what happened:- ".... and I ORDAINE my wife ....." He was 'ordaining' that his wife and daughter be executors of his Will. John Baragwanath's wife was actually Eleanor.

Pumpkin - ref the 1741 Will of Thomas LEDDRA. Afraid it won't be of much help as it was only an Administration. Here it is courtesy of Zenobia's Genealogy Home Page:- THOMAS LUDDRA of St. Ives, mariner Admon granted 16 July 1741 to HONOUR LUDDRA of the borough of St. Ives, widow of the deceased. Bond by the said HONOUR LUDDRA, JOHN NOAL of St. Ives, gent, and HONOUR LUDDRA of St. Ives, spinster. Inventory taken 15 July 1741 by JOHN NOALL and CHARLES JENKYN. ++++++++++++ As you can see the only family members mentioned are his wife Honor and his then unmarried daughter Honor. At least you don't have to go hunting for it now.

Thanks for the additional update Pumpkin - will now go and have a look for myself. And then I will try and look at some stuff that I intended to do many, many, many hours ago. CT Okay - I can see what happened with the birthplaces in the 1851 Census. If you have another look at the original you will see that the birthplace field for Charles is blank. Then we have Cornwall, St Ives beside Johanna and so on. What happened is that the enumerator started one line down on where he should have and so it looks like Johanna was born in St Ives. But I cannot make out the birthplace beside Richard's name. Interesting to note also that in 1841 Johanna gave her age as 35 (born about 1805) and then in 1851 she is 40 and in 1861 she is 50 and thus born about 1810! I have found Johanna in every Census except for 1891 but have only tried a couple of name variations. In 1861 they were still at Stepney. In 1871 Johanna was at Mile End Old Town with children Elizabeth and Charles. In 1881 Johanna was living on her own at Mile End Old Town. In 1893 Johanna died and is recorded in FreeBMD as 'Hannah' age 74 at Mile End. There we are!

hi CT Some answers to queries Richards birthplace in 1851 is Wapping which is in London... In 1891 Johanna, down as Liddia is living with her daughter Sarah & husband George Ellis at 39 Shandy Street, Mile End Old Town, she is a widow age 82 I know we women are supposed to lie about our age but looks like she had no idea at all what her age was Her death certificate shows her as Hannah Leddra age 74, died at 39 Shandy Street of "Gangrene of the hand" widow of Charles Leddra, cooper. The marriage of Johanna & Charles Leddra took place on 14th Nov 1826 at St.James. Thats the only details I have. No further information on her parents. Thanks for her exact date of birth any idea what the GLS stands for Thank you for the will of Thomas Luddra, not much info but better than nothing In the short time I have been a member of this forum you have got me back to GT7 on my Curnow side and Gt8 on the Quicks Many many thanks to everyone Going to have another read of the information now Pumpkin

Glad to be of help Pumpkin. The baptism of Johanna is what I found based on information from yourself (i.e. father John) and also, mainly, from the Census records. Looking at it all now and Johanna would have been 16 when she married Charles. So let's keep our minds open on that Baptism. She may have not been baptised immediately but even so her age is very consistent throught the Census so I think the right baptism has been identified. (I will take another look anyway just to be sure.) One final question (I think) - could you please tell me the actual date of death for Johanna, day, monthe etc.?? Also - do you have a date of death for Charles as I only have 1852. If I find anything more for you I will let you know. Meantime you have a good read of the information and check back through your other lines because I reckon you might find a few more questions for us. ;D CT ALMOST FORGOT! - GLS is the abbreviation for Gloucestershire.

Thankyou pumpkin - nothing like having all the gaps filled in. Just wish we could locate that bit of information we need to identify Richard LEDDRA. It will turn up - just a matter of keeping our eyes open and keeping up the search. CT

Before i "found" this forum I was in touch with the volunteers at St.Ives study centre, I asked them if they knew anything about my Gt3 Grandmother Sarah Curnow who married James Leddra. They have informed me that Sarah Curnow was BORN on 2nd July 1762 at Towednack which ties in with her Bap 2nd Jan 1763 so far so good but then go on to say she was the daughter of JOHN Curnow (I have Paul ) and Sarah Ninnis married 12.10. 1756 at Ludgvan and that Sarah (Curnow) siblings are Martha bap 29.4.1759 Towednack Jane 25.5.1760 Elizabeth 30.12.1764 Jacob 14.6.1767 Mary 29.5.1768 No mention of Paul who married James Leddras sister Honor Parents of Sarah Ninnis..... John Ninnis & Jane Quick marr 30.4.1722 Towednack.... Any advice on this would be most welcome Pumpkin

There would appear to be an error in what they have sent you:-
12th October 1756 Paul CURNOW married Sarah NINNES at Ludgvan
That is from Phillimore & Taylor and is matched with the entry in IGI.
The only John CURNOW/Sarah marriage that I am aware of back then is the 1727 marriage of John CURNOW to Sarah WEYMOUTH at St Buryan.
Also - the siblings mentioned were all baptised at Towednack which is why there is no sign of Paul.
Paul was baptised at St Ives
There was also a Jane who was buried at Towednack in 1759 but I have not found a baptism for her.
And the youngest two children, Ann and Catherine, were both also baptised at St Ives.

Enjoy yourself - there is plenty to read and plenty of interest and I am sure you will find something to spark some more branches and queries. Hmmm - 'spark some more branches' is probably not a good term seeing as I am a volunteer firefighter and we are coming into the fire season. Perhaps we make it 'create' some more branches.
