This forms part of what I lost this morning.
Newlyn - this is the Matthew in question with his parents Matthew TREWHELLA m. Catherine ROBERTS 6th January 1781 at St Hilary.
Have not yet tried to trace Catherine Roberts. (Londoner - told you I could find another loose end. ;D)
Matthew TREWHELLA (the elder) was baptised 28th February 1759 at Ludgvan s/o Thomas TREWHEELA and Catherine BARNS who married at Perranuthnoe 19th November 1754.
Thomas TREWHEELA - This is your lucky day Londoner - Have so far not been able to satisfactorily work out where Thomas belongs although I do have some ideas.
BTW Newlyn there were a couple more children to Matthew and Catherine (Roberts) but I can fill in those details a little later if you or anyone would like them.
I will probably break the rest of this up into multiple postings to try and avoid this morning's disaster but ......
I just noticed something in my database that might prove of use.
There is a connection to PERRANUTHNOE back as far as at least 1754 when Thomas TREWHEELA married Catherine BARNS.
Whilst yet to determine the parentage of Thomas I am almost certain that Catherine was baptised 7th February 1722 (IGI) at St Hilary d/o Pascoe BARNS and Sarah (nee JORDAN).
Thomas and Catherine had three children of which only the two sons survived.
Thomas (1755 Ludgvan) married Mary EDWARDS 27th December 1776 at St Hilary.
Both are buried at St Erth and they had 10 children amongst which daughter Mary married HAMPTON, Catherine married a HICKS, Jenifer married a ROGERS and Christian married John BURALL. (Isn't this where all this started :
There is more of interest on this side of the family but it will have to wait for now.
The other son was Matthew who married Catherine ROBERTS.
Many of these are buried at St Erth and there are a couple of headstones there to them right by the Church. (I have photos).
But what I noticed was to do with the eldest daughter of Matthew and Catherine (Roberts).
Se died unmarried in 1860 and is buried at PERRANUTHNOE.
Iit may be that more answers might be found in that Parish - as evidenced by a couple of items found by Newlyn today.
Back to Matthew and Catherine (nee JAMES) for now.
Of six children it would seem that only two are requiring attention at the moment - Nanny and Mary.
James (m. Mary Ann BUZZA) was the only son and we have now done a bit of work on him and his family.
One question - James was apparently born at Newtown, Ludgvan about 1830 but I have not been able to find any baptism for him.
I have my doubts that it will be found but would appreciate any new information.
The daughters:-
Jane was born 2nd February 1828 and baptised 23rd September 1828 at Ludgvan. She was buried at Ludgvan 9th October 1829.
Catherine was baptised at Ludgvan 24th August 1818 and married William TREGLOAN - see other thread for this.
Elizabeth, Nanny and Mary remain and I think I can group them together in a new posting.
A couple of minutes to think and then will tell you what I know about these girls, answer some queries arising from earlier helpful posts and possibly raise some new questions.
