Catherine first: 1851 at Tregurtha Downs, St Hilary William Tregloan 34 St Hilary Catherine 33 Ludgvan William 7 Ludgvan Emily 4 Ludgvan Catherine 2 weeks St Hilary
1861 as above plus John J 7 St Hilary
1864 Q4 Penzance 5c 207 death of Catherine Tregloan
1871 William - widr Kate 20 John 17 Emily Bawden 24 miner's wife (daughter) Kate Bawden 3 grand daughter Caroline Bawden 2 granddaughter
1881 & 91 as above except no Caroline
1901 John & sister Kate still at Tregurtha
have yet to find Emily & Katie and cant find a marriage for Emily to the unidentified Mr Bawden
Mary - a little more complicated: I expect you have the earlier records but I'll start at 1841
1841 at Ludgvan Newtown Matthew 55 Catherine 50 Ann15 James 15 Mary 11
1851 at Ludgvan Newtown Matthew (wid) 65 St Erth Ann 28 St Erth Mary 25 Ludgvan James 26 Ludgvan
1861 (not certain but the only one with date same, you will probably know if this is a different Mary - the more I look the more I think this is wrong ) at St Erth Mary Trewhella (wid) T'wednack Elizabeth Trewhella sister 46 St Uny Lelant
father Matthew and sister Ann still at Ludgvan in 1861
1871 at Carnburges, St Agnes James Gundry 50 Farmer of 30 acres Perranuthnoe Mary Gundry41 Ludgvan Mary Trewhella 43 visitor Ludgvan (who is this one?)
1881 at Trevena Sq Marazion Mary Gundry 55 widow Ann Trewhella 57 sister Louisa Nicholls neice Ludgvan
So there seem to be two Marys born in Ludgvan within two years, the unmarried one possibly the daughter of Matthew & Grace.
I haven't worked out who Louisa Nicholls was either - good to leave something for you to work out!

Currently working on the Treglown section of this and should get to Gundry soon. Will then take a look at the 'oddities' you found and try to explain who is who. I think I can tell you why you cannot find details on the Bawden/Bowden side of things here. I went through and checked each Census and was just logging out of 1891 when something barely caught my eye. Kate BAWDEN - born EDINBORO, SCOTLAND Also had a bit of a look for Emily's marriage and, like you, cannot find it so am wondering if that might have also occurred in Scotland. Awaiting a couple of emails with username and password information for Scotlands People which I have just registered with. Then will see if I can find the blighters up there!

There was a Matthew Trewheela born 17.10.1784 in St Erth. Parents were another Matthew and another Catharine.
Can't see any sign of a Marriage yet for Matthew and Catharine James.

Well - duly got my registration confirmed for Scotland's People. But no matches show up for a marriage of Emily Tregloan. Tried a blanket search for births and got 18 hits - you beauty thinks I and clicks to have a look. Can't have a look at that list until you fork out the dosh! But I did have some minor successes. Caroline BOWDEN died 1877 page 9 Penzance R.D. September Qtr Vol 5c Pg 170 William TREGLOWN died 1893 age 78 Penzance R.D. December Qtr Vol 5c Pg 206 And now I can't find a Birth Registration for John J TREGLOWN s/o William and Catherine! Now time to see if I can find a baptism for William and then I will take a look at the other bits and pieces.

Emily Tregloan b.1846 married William Bowden b.1845 at Perranuthnoe Catholic Church on the 30.10.1866. Witnesses were William Tregloan and Olivia Tregloan.
Emily was residing at St Hilary at the time of marriage. Father was a farmer - William Tregloan
William Bowden was residing at Goldsithney at the time of marriage and was a Miner. His father had died. Williams surname was stated as Bowden and not Bawden. Is this is a possibility?

I have just spent hours working on this problem and preparing my message and I have just lost the whole damned lot. Looks like I will have to start all over again but I see there are some new notes here so will read and digest those first. All my own stupid fault - I intended to change Explorer windows to check some more Census data. Was going to need to go back a page to enter new search details but I hit the back button whilst still in the window with my message and duly wiped the lot. Will try again.

Newlyn - that information looks excellent. The witnesses are interesting. William Tregloan would be either Emily's father or her brother but Olivia I don't know. It is possible that the younger William had married and this was his wife so will have to check on that. Think I will take a break from this one for a short while and have a check of other messages on the Board. Then I can come back to this and start again to work through these notes and finish what I just managed to destroy.

Where are you finding these little gems Newlyn? Great work again and all helping to fill in the picture. Have decided it is best if I get a few hours sleep before tackling the Mary Gundry problem again. Will start afresh and, hopefully, get things right! But a couple of things before I retire. William and Catherine Tregloan were enumerated immediately after Matthew and Catherine Trewhella at Newton, Ludgvan in the 1841 Census. Londoner - this is a different family altogether. At this census we had a family at Trevefsa (Andrew and Wimot and children) and then:- John TREWHELLA, head, wid., 60 Tregathes Mary TREWHELLA, mother, wid., 85 Elizabeth TREWHELLA, sister, 46 Louisa NICHOLLS, niece, 16 The way it was written it appeared that John TREWHELLA was at Trevefsa when, in fact, he was head of the household at Tregathes. Mary was his mother and Eizabeth his sister with Louisa Nicholls being John's niece. Mary was Mary BERRYMAN who married John TREWHELLA in 1800. Another of John's sisters married William NICHOLAS and Louisa was their daughter. I will try and produce that a little more clearly later today but suffice to say for now that it has nothing to do with Matthew and Catherine. Until later.

I'm glad you had the correct info. it just didnt seem right. And good to see the Emily bawden marriage. Thanks Newlyn:) all we really need now is Matthew & Catherine's marriage and you'll be sorted - for a moment at least, until you pull out another loose end

I find most of the information from just digging around but the OPC database is very useful.
If Matthew and Catherine were the parents of the Matthew who married Catherine James then some (or all) of their other children were: Catherine b. 3.2.1782
Matthew b.17.10.1784
Jennifer b.8.7.1787
Mary b.26.7.1789
Christian b.20.6.1790
Thomas b.1.7.1792 All children born at St Erth.
Some Gundry Info from St Erth
Parents Henry and Mary Gundry and the following children:
Christian b.8.6.1777
Maria b.23.7.1780
Priscilla b.26.1.1783
Jennifer b.25.7.1784
Matthew and Catherine nee James wedding is proving to be a bit of a humdinger!!

I concur wholeheartedly with those comments Londoner. But I think we need to concede that Emily's husband was BOWDEN and not BAWDEN given that only a Census entry uses the latter spelling. (Pedantic I know. : The marriage of Matthew Trewhella to Catherine ...... PLEASE someone find it - if it can be found. Would welcome comments on the JAMES side of things. It would appear that I must have the right family but would like to be certain - so if anyone has an interest in the JAMES family and can help then please do so. LOOSE ENDS - Londoner, if you want some loose ends then I reckon I can still find a few in the Trewhella line and its offshoots. ;D Must say that it is good to have this thread so active and I hope that some of the names mentioned will be of help/interest to others. Now to see if I can resurrect this morning's data and finally get this part of things sorted.
