Hi again - this time with a possibly helpful suggestion for you!
I just noticed that you have mentioned 'hand-writing' information that you find instead of printing on your friend's computer.
There is a much easier way and also saves on pens/pencils!
Why not just save any items you find to a folder on the PC and then when you are done copy it to a CD or Floppy and take it home with you?!
A lot of stuff on Ancestry will come up on screen with a menu to the left.
At or near the bottom of that menu is an item called 'View Printer Friendly'.
Click on that and the display will change.
Then go to your top toolbar and hit 'File' - 'Save As' and then just point to the folder where you want the information saved.
If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or 8 you may not have the toolbar at the top showing. (The one with File, Edit etc.)
If that is the case then just hit the Alt key and that toolbar will appear - then just follow the above.
Another thing you may want to copy or save is an image (e.g. the page of a Census) and you have to go about this in a slightly different way.
In this case you do not want to use the top toolbar!!!
When the image appears on screen there will be a toolbar immediately above the image.
On the right side of that toolbar will be a number of icons such as 'Print' - 'Share' - 'Save'.
In this case you want 'Save'.
Pressing this will bring up two or three options amongst which are:-
Save to Shoebox
Save to your Computer
Check on 'Save to your Computer' and then simply direct where you wat the file or image saved!
Many items will 'default' to save locations like 'Downloads', 'My Documents' or, in the case of photos/images, 'My Photos'.
So just change the location to the folder you have selected.
When you are finished simply copy that folder to a CD/DVD, pack up and go home to play around with your material on your own computer!
