Morning CT
I am looking for an Edward John Glasson and his wife Agnes Smith - maiden name unknown.
They arrived in Broken Hill, NSW in 1887 and had a number of children there - including a Barbara, Wm, Thos, Edward, Katie, Agnes, Jessie and Mary. . Edward died in 1920 - aged 63 years - and Agnes in 1917 - just after her son Edward John was wounded in WW1.
I cannot find a record of their marriage previous to arriving in Broken Hill and I cannot yet see where they came from - Cornwall or wherever...
Do you have them in your database?
Lannanta
PS - can't be Christmas yet... we just had one a wee while ago.....

Just as I thought! - It's a conspiracy! Blighters are trying to fit two in each year now!!!! Bah! Humbug!!!! Edward John Glasson - after a glance at my database I can say that I don't currently have him but ................ I have a sneaking suspicion that he is going to be a son of Edward Glasson and Janetta Batten who married at Phillack 15th November 1838. They had a son Edward John Glasson who died at Phillack in 1852 at the age of 8. In fact young Edward John and his sister Janetta were both buried at Phillack on January 15th 1852. Three days later brother Benjamin was buried at Phillack. In November of that year another son was born to Edward and Janetta - Benjamin Edward Glasson whose baptism was recorded with the names reversed. The Edward in his name might put a spanner in the works but sometime after 1852 the family came out to Victoria where Edward senior died in 1860. I will see what I can find and let you know. CT

The works have been Bah-Humbugged!! Edward John GLASSON (age 27 son of James Glasson) married Agnes Smith YOUNG (age 27 daughter of James Young) 7th July 1883 at the residence of Joseph Boundy, Kooringa, South Australia. Katy Smith Glasson born 21st April 1884 Kooringa, SA Barbara Jane Glasson born 6th June 1885 Kooringa, SA James Henry Glasson born 22nd June 1886 Kooringa, SA Thereafter the children appear to have all been born in NSW and I can get the basic details if you need them. Edward John Glasson was born 21st February 1857 at Para Wirra, South Australia, son of James Glasson and his wife Esther Price. James GLASSON (age 24) married Esther PRICE (age 25) 14th June 1855 at the Residence of Llewellyn Morgan, Adelaide (Father's names not recorded) Two other children that I can find:- Esther Ann born 16th May1858 at Chain of Ponds, South Australia Sarah Jane born 6th October 1859 at Chain of Ponds, South Australia Ester GLASON, age 30, wife of James Glason died at Black Springs, South Australia, 25th April 1861. And now we get to the bit that might help identify James Glasson! James GLASSON (age 29 son of John Glasson) married Catherine GOODS (age 18 daughter of George Goods) 4th November 1862 at the Residence of Thomas Glasson, Chain of Ponds. (Previous marital status not recorded) I think you may be looking at the son(s) of John Glasson and Joan Tyack who married at Sithney 26th December 1811. CT

That is perfect CT
I have James and Catherine GOODS as you do and there are various newspaper clippings concerning these two and their children.
I also believe that James was the son of John Glasson and Jane Tyack (baptised in August 1830 at Sithney) and makes sense when you consider how many other siblings also went to Australia.
You have done very well yet again.... I will put my bits and pieces together and see where the holes remain.

I am assuming that this is the residence of Thomas, the brother and his wife Angelina. I also assume that you have access to the SA records - do you have a list of the children of Thomas Glasson and Angelina nee Harry? I only have three but I do know that there were at least five daughters.

SA Indexes I most certainly have. Firstly - it seems that you supplied me with information about the marriage of Thomas and Angelina. That information is basic - 1st September 1849 at Helston. My problem is that the marriage does not appear in the Helston PR and you appear also not to have supplied information form a Certificate to the OPC. Could you supply full details of the marriage please including witnesses etc. The list of children I am able to find for Thomas and Angelina is as follows:- Henrietta Peters GLASSON born 14th April 1852 Adelaide, SA Henry Harry GLESSON born 1853 FORE (probably Forest Creek), Victoria Thomas GLASSON born 1855 CRESWICK, Victoria Charlott Elizabeth Harry GLASSON born 19th June 1858 Treelone, SA Tomasena Harry GLASSON born 2nd December 1859 Treelone, Maidstone, SA Thomas Harry GLASSON born 4th May 1861 Trelone, SA Henrietta Harry GLASSON born 3rd August 1862 Treelone, SA Angelina Harry GLASSON born 23rd August 1863 Trelone, Chain of Ponds, SA Henrietta Peters Harry Tzack GLASSON born 27th September 1864 Chain of Ponds, SA Mary Louisa GLASSON born 2nd August 1866 Treelone, SA Sarah GLASSON born 20th July 1868 Kersbrook, SA Edith Alice Harry GLASSON born 5th September 1873 Hd of Hanson, SA (nr Burra) John Harry GLASSON born 13th August 1875 Nr Hanson, SA And possibly:- Laura Amelia GLASSON born 27th May 1870 Emu Flat, SA daughter of Thomas GLASSON and Amelia HARRY Well that family has now grown somewhat! ;D Deaths Henrietta Peters GLASSON age 1 month - 14th May 1852 Adelaide - father Thomas Thomas GLASSON age 15 months - 9th May 1856 (place not named but Adelaide Dist.) - father Thomas Henritta Harry GLASSON age 9 months - 13th April 1863 Maidstone - father Thomas Henrietta Peters Harry Tyck GLASSON age 2 months - 20th November 1864 Chain of Ponds - father Thomas Angelina GLASSON age 60 - 9th May 1893 Baroota - Thomas Glasson, deceased husband CT

CT I do not believe that I have a certificate for this marriage. I have the marriage place being at the Wesleyan Methodist Association Chapel in Helston but I do not have any further notes including Angelina's father's name which, if I did, would have suggested that I had seen a certificate somewhere. On that note she is of course the daughter of Henry and Charlotte Harry of Sithney and a lot of her children bear the names of her siblings. I do also have this with regard to the marriage of Angelina: Thanks for the list of children. I guess this means that I am into the Australian Glassons now. Lannanta

AHA she cried whilst dancing a jig and waving her wooden leg in the air!!! ;D
From previous information (i.e. 2010) we are certainly looking at the family of John Glasson and wife Joan Tyack.
You previously sent me a copy of the Marriage Certificate for Richard Tyack Glasson and Mary Tyack who married at the Wesleyan Methodist Association Chapel at Helston 11th September 1849.
That makes brother Thomas married the same date and place to Angelina Harry as per the Royal Cornwall Gazette. And FreeBMD has them as September Qtr 1849 pages 155 (Richard) and 156 (Thomas). It then follows that brother James married Catherine Goods in South Australia in 1862 at the home of his brother with a probable prior marriage to Esther Price in 1855.

Must have been back in the bad old days when I was not recording my sources properly etc....
With respect to the SA data, do you have a record of who the father of Sarah Glasson was who married John Turner in 1890 in the Frome District?

John Turner (age 23 son of William Turner) married Sarah Glasson (age 22 daughter of Thomas Glasson) 9th September 1890 at the residence of R C Yeoman, Port Germein That makes her the daughter of Thomas Glasson and Angelina Harry. CT

Thanks, all fitting together nicely. Two more SA questions if I might?
William Glasson and Elizabeth Ann Trounce have four birth entries from 1856 to 1860 (one twice). Then there is a pair of twins in 1862 to William Glasson and Elizabeth Trenance - is this the same couple or am I missing a marriage?
Also I have a marriage for John and Emma Louisa Chandler in 1882. Can you identify John's father please?

Never a problem. The list of children for William and Elizabeth Ann is as follows:- William Trounce born 23rd September 1856 Chain of Ponds William Trounce born 27th September 1856 Woodland Chain of Ponds William John born 5th February 1858 Maidstone Josephus born 11th March 1860 Woodland And then with mother as Elizabeth Trenance:- Martha Ann born 15th May 1862 Black Springs Mary Johanna born 15th May 1862 Black Springs In the case of William Trounce Glasson it is possible that, for one reason or another, the birth was registered twice. I have no doubt it is the same child and it is not the first time I have seen double-registrations. In 1857 William Martin Trewhella was registered twice - once by his grandfather (William Clatworthy) at Saltash when the date of birth was recorded as 14th August and birthplace as Saltash and once by his father (William Trewhella) at Ludgvan when the date of birth was recorded as 15th August and birthplace as Amalebrea, Ludgvan. From the information I found yesterday for the children of James and brother Thomas it appears that all places recorded above are in the same area. That being the case suggests that TRENANCE is probably a bastardization of TROUNCE. William Trounce Glasson died at Chain of Ponds 15th March 1857 and I can find no evidence of a marriage involving the name TRENANCE. In fact the name TRENANCE appears just twice in the South Australian BDMs and that is as mother to the twins above. I think that is enough evidence to suggest that it is a bastardization. Do I presume that, given the location, William Glasson was also sibling to Thomas, James and Richard Tyack Glasson? CT

Yes, that is my assumption.
I have William as baptised at Sithney on the 10th February 1833.
Although he was was the son of John and Joan (Jane) Glasson - his mother was often named as Johanna and this name appears in one of his children, as it does through the children of some of his siblings as well.
I would assume that somewhere in the area there may have been a sister or two but already married prior to elaving Cornwall.

PS - any luck with Emma Louisa Chandler?
