Oops! - got carried away with the others and forgot all about this one! John Glasson (age 24 son of John Glasson) married Emma Louisa Chandler (age 24 daughter of Adam Chandler) 23rd November 1882 at the United Methodist Church Adelaide Looks like just one child in South Australia:- John George Stuart Glasson born 10th August 1884 Prospect Louisa Emma Chandler born 25th October 1856 Houghton, SA daughter of Adam Chandler and Louisa Baker I can't find any further trace of them in South Australia although there is a John Stewart Glasson age 19 died in 1901. No birth for him and his age puts his birth about 1881 or 1882 which would indicate he might belong somewhere else. CT

Just as a matter of interest - the marriage between John Reed Glasson and Emmeline Norris in 1885 at East Adelaide - doesn't by any chance say he was a widower?
He is the right age and in the right place...

Better start thinking about Plan B on that one. 6th May 1885 Congregational Church, College Park, East Adelaide John Reed Glasson, single, age 28, son of John Glasson Emmeline Norris, single, age 26, daughter of William Norris Besides which I searched earlier and could find no further information on John and Emma Louisa Glasson. Nothing even close in the death records and I also checked for possible second marriages. NSW and Victorian records provided nothing either. CT

Well it was a long shot - I knew that he had married twice and I was pretty convinced that he would have owned up if he had a third wife...
There are still a few candidates in Cornwall that fit the bill but I would need some more information.... I guess anything suggested at the moment would just be a guess....

Okay - I think I might now have something of value to offer. 29th October 1881 United Methodist Free Church, Adelaide Joseph PHILLIPS, age 25, son of John Phillips Susan GLASSON, age 20, daughter of John Glasson The most likely match from FreeBMD followed by two 'possibles':- Susan Glasson born December Qtr 1861 Redruth R.D. Susan Ann Glasson born June Qtr 1860 Redruth R.D. Susan Ann Glasson born September Qtr 1861 Penzance R.D. Unfortunately that is about as far as I can get at the moment. No sign in the 1861 or 1871 Census and nothing showing on a quick check of passenger lists. Hopefully you will already have a little something lurking in your database. CT

Lannanta - it is late at night and I am slightly confused by your latest responses. The confusion is that I am not quite sure exactly what details each of those responses is referring to. Maybe tomorrow night when I get home I might be able to read through the conversation again and get it all sorted in my head. If I can't work it out I will do the next best thing ............... ask questions! CT

Initially I was trying to suggest that John Reed Glasson may well have still been an option for our mysterious John of Prospect - particularly the comment referring to the mysterious John being the oldest son.
But the later email showed that he was still in England in 1882 and therefore I finally realised that John Reed was definitely not an option.
The following two messages simply showed that your three likely options for Susan were all females with fathers other than John - according to me anyway.

The answer to this problem actually comes quite easily - and is due to your reference to Susan Glasson and Joseph Phillips. If you go to the SA indexes you will find four children to Joseph Phillips and Susan nee Glasson - they are Joseph John, Ernest, Elizabeth Lily and Violet Myrtle. But there are two more children to a Joseph Phillips and his wife Elizabeth Susan Glasson - Frances Louisa and Anny Jane.
It is known that Elizabeth Susan Glasson married Joseph Phillips as when she died in 1901 her death was reported in The Cornishman newspaper and it stated that she was the wife of Joseph Phillips.
In the 1861 and 1871 census Elizabeth Susan was living with her parents at home - and those parents were John Glasson and Frances Ann nee Clemens and both these parents were buried at Lelant - even though John descends from the Crowan family of Glassons.
The first child of John and Frances was another John Glasson and he was born at St Erth around 1857 - and therefore he is the mysterious eldest son of John Glasson.

The Advertiser (Adelaide) 21st December 1901 GLASSON.—On the 23rd November, at Mount Eba Station, Stuart Glasson, the only beloved son of John S. and Emma Glasson, of Lyndoch, aged 17 years. Rest in peace.

I thought I had looked at that family but dismissed them for some reason. This might have something to do with my response above. It refers to John as the eldest son of Mr John Glasson of Prospect. That infers that John senior was also in South Australia yet you say that both he and Frances were buried at Lelant. That then leads me to another dilemma as I currently show John senior's burial as 12th January 1907 at St Erth age 72. CT
