This quote is from a post of 5th November 2021 and I think I have just solved the 'Alice' part of the problem:-
Crowan -
30th May 1714 Alce wife of John Trewealla was buriedNow, that only confirms that there was an Alice someone married to a John Trewhella (var.) but it does offer a glimmer of hope in understanding the two marriages in 1713 and 1715 of 'John Treweela and Mary his wife'. I suspect that the latter marriage will be for the man then recently widowed on the death of Alce.
It could be argued that the several children baptised between 1713 and 1728 would then, potentially, all be children from the 1713 marriage. Although there is just one clear query to be addressed - the baptism of Grace 13th June 1719 and the baptism of Thomas 26th December 1719!!
The previous child baptised to a John Trewhella was in February 1717/18 so there is room for Grace to have been born many months prior to her baptism. And as Thomas son of John was buried just 17 days after the baptism he was possibly just days old at baptism.
But then the rather larger spanner enters the works!!! And that is the 1758 Will of Mary Trewhela widow whose husband was one of these John Trewhelas. The children, in order of their mention in the Will, are listed here followed by the baptisms and burials for children of John Trewhella from the Crowan registers:-
son Thomas Trewhela
son James Trewhela
son in law William Gill
daughter Elizabeth Trewhela
daughter
Mary Trewhela
daughter Cathran Trewhela
children of daughter
Margetson John Trewhela (Executor)
In the above list I have highlighted those for whom I have not found a baptism.
In the list below I have highlighted those whose names appear in the Will.
1st May 1716 -
John son of John Trewheela baptised
4th February 1717 -
Elizabeth daughter of John Trewheela baptised
13th June 1719 - Grace daughter of John Trewheela baptised <===
26th December 1719 - Thomas son of John Trewheella baptised
11th January 1719 - Thomas son of John Trewheela was buried
30th March 1723 -
Thomas and
Katharine children of John Trewheela baptised
18th May 1725 - James son of John Trewheella baptised
15th March 1725 - James son of John Trewheela was buried
23rd June 1728 -
James son of John Trewheella baptised
2nd January 1742 -
William Gill of Stythians married Margaret Trewheela by Banns
Note that Grace was not mentioned in the Will of Mary Trewhela so there must be some question about where she belongs but Thomas (baptised and buried 1719) could very well belong given the 1723 baptism of another Thomas.
Given the state of the Crowan registers it is possible a burial for Grace might be lost but the more important issue at this point is the lack of baptisms for daughters Mary and Margaret and just where in the chronology they might fit in the list of children.
That gives me some more headaches to overcome!
An additional albeit slightly separate point of interest is that, with the possible exception of two burials in 1765 and 1773, the 1779 baptism of Samuel base child of Joanna Trewhellar and the subsequent marriage of Joanna to William Symmons in 1782, all Trewhelas (and var.) appearing in the Crowan registers after 1762 appear to be descendants of the marriage of John Trewheeler and Margaret Parsons at Lanteglos by Camelford in 1739.
This was the second marriage of John the son of Charles Trewhella and Margery Luke who married at Camborne in 1686, Charles being probably the eldest son of Christopher Trewhella of Helston. And those entries all emanate from the 1763 marriage of John's youngest son Thomas to Martha Blewett.
The entries prior to 1763 will take a lot more work yet although I suspect at least some connect back to Christopher Trewhella of Helston via his other sons Thomas and Matthew. But the remaining Crowan records seem more connected with Breage and possibly to the Trewhela als Polglase/Polglase als Trewhela family which appears to have originated at Cury.
