I have a conundrum that I am struggling to come to a conclusion with.

Firstly I have a family in Victoria -

Add to that another son of Benjamin & Eliza Jane Temby - William Henry..... the proof is shown below....

Marriage at Turner Street, Armadale on the 27th June, 1911.
William Henry Glasson, bachelor, born in Yackandandah, labourer, aged 32 years, present address Armadale, usual address Roma, Queensland. Son of Benjamin Edward Glasson, a farmer, and Grace Temby.
Alice Howman, spinster, born in Tawonga, domestic duties, aged 22 years, present address Armadale, usual address Tawonga, Victoria, daughter of Robert Howman, farmer deceased, and Eleanora Herriman.
Witnesses: John Nicholas Glasson and David William Shaw.

It is interesting to note that the following appears

In the Divorce Court Benjamin Edward Glasson, farmer, of Kiewa, petitioned for the dissolution of his marriage with Martha Mary Glasson, on the ground of desertion. The parties were married in 1879, and in 1888 Mrs. Glasson absconded with a man named Joseph Thompson, and had remained away ever since. Four children were the issue of the marriage, and petitioner desired to remarry. Mr. Justice Hood refused the petition.

You perhaps wonder why the wife is named as Martha Mary and why the reference is to only four children?

Benjamin Edward Glasson was born in Phillack in Cornwall in 1852 and emigrated with his family to Victoria, Australia and married Eliza Jane Temby in 1879 at Victoria.

Now comes a second family in New South Wales.

It is only mildly interesting that there is a second William Henry.

The marriage of Dulcie Grace Glasson proves to be enlightning....

I cannot find this second marriage and the thought that the father is the same man, or that the mother was, has been intriguing me....

A little bit of sideways thinking was required here but I believe I have the answer for you.

That indeed was the case! Grace Temby was born at Yackandandah in 1862 daughter of Nicholas Temby and his wife Jane Shugg. Eliza Jane was born the following year also at Yackandandah.

It is interesting that William Henry was born the same year that his father married Eliza Jane Temby and equally interesting that Grace Temby never married. Grace died at Cheltenham in 1841 age 77.

I believe you indicated you were missing a second marriage, presumably to Grace. What I am saying is that I do not believe there is any missing marriage.

William Henry Glasson was actually registered at birth as William Henry TEMBY. He was born at Yackandandah in 1879 son of Grace Temby and an unknown (unnamed) father.
Your information now tells us that the father was Benjamin Edward Glasson who married Eliza Jane Temby the same year William Henry was born.

Eliza Jane Temby and Grace Temby were sisters - daughters of Nicholas Temby and his wife Jane Shugg. Grace died unmarried at the age of 77 as per my earlier information.

Actually I thought that the use of the name Grace Temby was a mistake - but now you have got me thinking...... I am not so sure anymore...

The second marriage I was referring to was to the parents of the second lot of children in New South Wales.. Edward and Eliza Jane...

Lannanta - I just checked again and there is no further mention of William Henry Temby in the Victorian Indexes. I checked all variations using only a wildcard search on the surname.
It appears Benjamin Edward Glasson had a bit of a fling with both sisters before deciding on marriage but a most curious situation given there were no children from the actual marriage until two years later.

And now I see the problem with the second marriage. I will do some hunting and see what I come up with.

Lannanta - regarding the marriage of William Henry Glasson and Alice Howman there is something I meant to mention in my last.

Alice Howman, spinster, born in Tawonga, domestic duties, aged 22 years, present address Armadale, usual address Tawonga, Victoria, daughter of Robert Howman, farmer deceased, and Eleanora Herriman.

The mother's surname was actually HERMANN and she was born in Prussia. I had at first wondered if it should have been Berriman.

Lannanta - no sign of any marriage that might help explain things unfortunately.
If the children in NSW belong to the same family then there is one thing I find a little strange. With the Victorian children the father's name was recorded as Benjamin Edward on two occasions and as Benjamin on two occasions yet in NSW the father is Edward on each occasion. That might suggest a different person except for the fact no marriage can be found and, more importantly, the marrige of Dulcie suggests it actually was Benjamin Edward.
The next curiosity is with the newspaper report of the Divorce Application which names the wife as Martha Mary. In light of the NSW births I also wonder now if there are more inaccuracies in that report - for example the date of alleged desertion!

There is one thing I found that might be of some use although unfortunately it might require either some luck with more newspaper searches or, sadly, the parting of another few dollars.

Eliza Jane Temby was daughter of Nicholas Temby and Jane Shugg so this just might be the wife of Benjamin Edward Glasson. Unfortunately the NSW Indexes do not, like Victoria, record the age of the deceased.

This is the only record I can find for Eliza Jane in NSW or Victoria.

I might have made an error - Dulcie states her father to be Edward - not Benjamin Edward.

Now here is a thing though.... First in Victoria Benjamin gets together with Grace Temby and makes a wee William Henry. Then he gets together with the sister Eliza Jane Temby and makes four more 1881, 1883, 1885 1887. In 1888 Eliza Jane runs off with Joseph Thompson and she is still away as at 1903 - and I therefore assume that she does not marry him because in 1903 Benjamin is denied a divorce.

From 1890 to 1895 an Edward Glasson and Eliza Jane Temby have four children in New South Wales and in 1951 it appears as if the original wife of Benjamin dies in New South Wales - there appears to be no record of this marriage if there ever was one.

I would not be surprised if Edward does not actually exist... and in fact the father of these four children is Joseph Thompson.... if you get my drift...

Oh yes, almost forgot, the child born in 1890 to Edward and Eliza Jane in NSW was Joseph E. T. - my guess for what it is worth..... Joseph Edward Thompson Glasson...... maybe the leap is too big???

Yes, I had noticed that in NSW the father was Edward and it struck me then that something was not as it appeared. But your 'leap' is not so big as it seems and in fact it makes perfect sense based on the evidence available.

Another interesting note is that when you look at Benjamin Edward Glasson in the census during the early 1900s, Grace Glasson is living with him. I would assume that this is Grace Temby. Bit of a possible love story perhaps??
