Bit of a possible love story perhaps??

And do you think perhaps we might now have a reason for Eliza Jane doing a runner? Maybe it took a few years before she found out that her husband was also the father of her nephew!

Oh yes, almost forgot, the child born in 1890 to Edward and Eliza Jane in NSW was Joseph E. T. - my guess for what it is worth..... Joseph Edward Thompson Glasson...... maybe the leap is too big???

Joseph Edward Thompson Glasson was born in February 1890. His father was given as Edward and his mother as Eliza Jane - and the marriage of the parents was that marriage between Benjamin Edward Glasson of Cornwall to Eliza Jane Temby in 1879 at Victoria.

There is also a reference to five siblings already born - 2 males and 3 females which suggests that the child born to her sister Grace is also included in this group.

So real father Joseph Thompson, legal father Benjamin Edward Glasson aka Edward Glasson... mother Eliza Jane Temby aka Eliza Jane Glasson.

As for the love story... Benjamin meets Grace, they fall in love and they have a child.. Grace is sent away and Benjamin is distraught and turns to her sister.... they marry and Grace comes home.. he still wants Grace and cannot have her... Eliza Jane senses this and finds a new man and finally she leaves without the children..... she starts her own family and Grace moves back in with Benjamin...... he wants to marry her but is refused a divorce by the judge...... or something like that.....

Joseph Edward Thompson Glasson was born in February 1890. His father was given as Edward and his mother as Eliza Jane - and the marriage of the parents was that marriage between Benjamin Edward Glasson of Cornwall to Eliza Jane Temby in 1879 at Victoria.

And this Joseph married Grace Margaret Miller in 1915 at Toowoomba, Queensland.

William Henry Glasson, bachelor, born in Yackandandah, labourer, aged 32 years, present address Armadale, usual address Roma, Queensland. Son of Benjamin Edward Glasson, a farmer, and Grace Temby.
Alice Howman, spinster, born in Tawonga, domestic duties, aged 22 years, present address Armadale, usual address Tawonga, Victoria, daughter of Robert Howman, farmer deceased, and Eleanora Herriman.
Witnesses: John Nicholas Glasson and David William Shaw.

In the Divorce Court Benjamin Edward Glasson, farmer, of Kiewa, petitioned for the dissolution of his marriage with Martha Mary Glasson, on the ground of desertion. The parties were married in 1879, and in 1888 Mrs. Glasson absconded with a man named Joseph Thompson, and had remained away ever since. Four children were the issue of the marriage, and petitioner desired to remarry. Mr. Justice Hood refused the petition.

You perhaps wonder why the wife is named as Martha Mary and why the reference is to only four children?

Benjamin Edward Glasson was born in Phillack in Cornwall in 1852 and emigrated with his family to Victoria, Australia and married Eliza Jane Temby in 1879 at Victoria.

Now comes a second family in New South Wales.

It is only mildly interesting that there is a second William Henry.

I cannot find this second marriage and the thought that the father is the same man, or that the mother was, has been intriguing me....

A very interesting family indeed.
The first William Henry Glasson / Temby was the father in law of my wife's godmother, and father of my father in law's cousin.
I had sorted out most of the families when I came upon this message thread.

Hi Lannanta,

From the combination of official registrations and newspaper articles and notices etc., William Henry Glasson born Temby 1879 was the son of Benjamin Edward Glasson and Grace Temby.

Eliza Jane 1881, Nicholas John Temby 1883, Florence Janetta 1885 and Georgina Lily 1887 were children of Benjamin Edward Glasson and Grace's sister Eliza Jane Temby.

Joseph Edward 1890, Lilian M 1891, William Henry 1893 and Dulcie Grace were children of Eliza Jane Glasson nee Temby and probably the Joseph Thomson she went with (the death registrations for W H and D G show parents as Joseph and Eliza).

My late father-in-law Ken Howman was a cousin and close mate to the late Bill Glasson, son of William Henry 1879.

Both Joseph Edward and William Henry 1893 were placed on the training ship "Sobraon" in the early 1900s.  Eliza Jane was recorded as a widow, but whether Joseph Thomson had died or left the family I don't know.
