I made a mistake with the 1851 census - Helen, aged 7, was born in North America, not Scotland, so I am going to leave that marriage alone for the moment.
As for the Biggs children - I am reasonably happy to accept that the three Biggs children were given the name Glasson at their 1830 baptisms, as opposed to when they were born, in response to the marriage of their mother to George Glasson in 1828. There is probably many reasons why Robert was treated differently.

Lannanta - a reasonable conclusion except that I am still curious as to why the second child (Robert) would have been baptised alone at age 5 while the baptisms of his siblings, all living at the time of Robert's baptism, were delayed. Even more curious that one of those siblings was in fact older than Robert. If Helen/Ellen Scott was born in 'North America' in about 1843 then it may not be so easy to track her down but I will have a quick look on the off chance they may have still been there in 1850. CT

CT There are many reasons why that could have been, the least of which could be whose house he was in at the time he was baptised, his own, his grandparents, aunts etc. I would have thought that to have the name Glasson as a second name in three out of four children you would expect the mother to be a Glasson. In this case she wasn't so it really has to be George and a recognition of him as the step father. But as always I would not be surprised if you found something to disprove that Lannanta

I reckon you will be the first to know if I do find anything. I did have a quick check of the US Census for the Scott family but, as suspected, without success. It may be that their little lot will fall into place one day but at least they don't seem to be critical to things at the moment. CT
