CT and others
I am interested to know if anybody is familiar with the 'general merchant', George Cornish Glasson, born 1828 in Bristol, son of George Cornish Glasson and Mary Biggs.
The younger George married somebody like Rosa Laura Butler-Lowe and he died in 1890, run over by a brewers dray I believe, and somewhere I read that he was buried as an unknown man. It is this man that I am interested in.

I'm guessing you've got all the details from FamilySearch's "England, Bristol Parish Registers, 1538-1900" Collection, showing his birth 4 Dec 1829, baptism St Stephen Bristol 30 May 1830, & then 2 daughters baptized 25 Dec 1856?
Marriage also on FamilySearch, in Dublin Eire 23 Sep 1854.
I keep coming across possible events recently for family I'm looking at in Ireland, most interesting/frustrating.....
Don't know about the death.....

This is a Rootsweb entry that refers to the death..... (Rootsweb has only 2 entries for George Cornish Glasson, one for the father, one the son, both by the same researcher)
What you really need is a newspaper report for London March 1880.....

Ps Sorry, didn't mean to hijack replying - this was just far more interesting than what I'm meant to be doing at the moment!

This FreeBMD death might be worth considering.....
Mar Q 1880 Glessix George age 49 Whitechapel Vol 1c Page 95
Whitechapel is correct RD for Tower Hamlets I believe; St Paul's Church(yard), fairly much in dockland/warehousing area of London, is half a mile from The Royal London Hospital....

Most interesting thing about the FreeBMD Death for George GLESSIX is that this is the only occurrence of the name GLESSIX appearing in FreeBMD for any event from 1837 until the most recent indexed entry. In that case I would suggest that it is indeed George Cornish Glasson. And were you also aware, just to confuse matters, that George Cornish Glasson senior married for a second time? This is confusing because he was baptising children around the same time as his son! George Cornish Glasson married Mary Jane Wharton June Qtr 1856 Vol 5b Page 562 Stoke Damerel R.D. CT

Found in Lloyds Weekly Newspaper Sun 7th March 1880, from the Gale 19th C British Newspapers collection:
Yesterday George Glasson aged 40 a man living at 59 Stamford Street, Blackfriars was crossing Bishopsgate Street and in endeavouring to cross behind an omnibus, a cab knocked him down and the wheels passed over his chest. He was picked up insensible, and conveyed to the London Hospital, when it was found that several ribs were broken.
BTW there are 772 Glasson entries under people in the collection! (BMD announcements mostly) It is possible to search by publication eg Royal Cornwall Gazette (246) some of the others refer to Glasson the place. and some interesting Adverts eg for the Bristol Merchants.

Another snippet - not relevant to the current query but still a Glasson: Bristol Mercury 22 Apr 1865 At Clifton Wood, Timothy Glasson a labourer, in the employ of Mr Iles, cola merchant of Hotwells, was thrown into a road when the scaffold he was climbing collapsed. He "suffered severe lacerations to the face and internal injuries to the chest" was conveyed to and detained in the Infirmary.

If George died in London in 1880 then where was he and his family up until this point? And where was his widow and the daughters in 1881? I have not been able to find any of them in the England Census. CT

I have not been able to find any of them in the England Census. CT Perhaps as he married in Ireland they were living in Ireland and his wife went back there after he died? However: Can someone look at 1860 US census for Cook Illinois - both Rosa b 1830 Ireland and Constance b 1856 England are listed there on Family Search - is the rest of the family there? Just tried entering Glasson Cook Illinois and George is also there in 1860

Must be them because in 1870 Rosa Glosson and 5 daughters: Rosa 14, Constance 13, Adelaide 10 (all b England) and Marion 8 Mary 2 both b Illinois are still there in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. George presumably travelling between US and England?
And in 1880 RosaGlaseon is a widow and there is one more child - Henry age 8 mary now called Birdie.
