That's he way Joanne - by doing that you will hopefully be able to find what you are looking for by a process of elimination. Good chance they might all be related as well.

Hi Joanne I do not think that there has been a lot of work done on this particular branch of the Glasson family, especially in the last decade. My connections are second hand, and in my opinion do not provide any conclusive proof for you. William Glasson and Mary Richards were married in 1798 at St Hilary, Mary resident at Marazion as was William. Other than that information there is none else from the marriage record - so was Mary from Wendron?? - well who knows. William, I believe, was the son of Stephen Glasson and Alice Perry (married 1759 at Madron), a family living at St Hilary but originally from Madron. Stephen and Alice had 8 children that I am aware of: Susanna, Alice, Thomas, Honor, Stephen, John, John and William. Back to William Glasson and Mary Richards - records only have two children listed to them - a daughter Mary in 1798 and then a son Richard in 1802, however the son Richard was a bastard and his father was Richard WILLS - although it appears that William was still alive at the time I have no details as to the parentage of Mary Richards. hi Lannanta.... have been trying to discover where you may have got the info about RICHARD GLASSON being a bastard son of RICHARD WILLS.. i certaintly have a lot to discover about research techniques ... from Mary Moyle nee Glassons burial details i am almost 100 percent certain she is the daaughter of William Glasson & MARY Richards....now with EDWARD MOYLE i had originally had him as the son of JOHN MOYLE & ANN PRYOR for some reason after reading someone elses tree i had discarded that idea but now after much researching his bap of Jan 1795 in Sithney is the only date that ties in with all the info i have..... who knows perhaps the tree i had read suggesting he was not my EDWARD may have been wrong.......i can find no other that fits as perfect as parents JOHN & ANN.......will continue to try and find the proof i need to verify this of course...cheers for all of your help...Joanne

Joanne - the Parish officials (e.g. the Giddys) would have been involved to ensure that no burden of payment was left to the Parish. As they appear to have had the 'culprit' then they had someone to pay for the welfare of the child and they would be making sure that those payments were made. In the case of 'unknown' fathers it more often than not fell to the Parish to support the mother and child.

Hi CT and Joanne
Interesting point, I do not have the original to look at at the moment and on reflection if it only says w. of William Glasson - then it could be widow - makes more sense......

regarding Marazion Borough, just noted an article in archive BMZ/11/2/65...from Cornwall record office, all i can see without ordering a copy is "Thomas Reskilly, expenses about WILLIAM GLASSON'S wife & child this was dated 1802, so I am presuming the Parish was taking care of Mary & William's daughter Mary Glasson after all... so hopefully some info will pop up about William Glasson's death or deseration of his young family? ??Being relatively new at this (2 years ago my interest came from nowhere) decided i wanted to know about my ancestry and have been pursuing trying to discover all i can...I would not have believed how very interesting it is!!! here in Australia I have travelled to my home state and taken photos of gravesites and found so much information..my ggg grandfather STEPHEN MOYLE son of Mary Glasson & Edward Moyle was a miner in Moonta then Broken Hill where he was killed in a mine accident, his name and cause of death is on the MINERS WALL of REMEMBERANCE in Broken Hill...along with I imagine alot more CORNISH miners.... I do wander a bit.....sorry lol....... cheers Joanne

CT regarding the marriage of Edward Moyle & MARY GLASSON, you mentioned a Bennet Gluyas marrying Jane Berryman in 1796 at Wendron, well after searching notes( i write down alot..hard to find later)... I have been trying to find a connection with Moyle's/Ivey's/Pascoe's/Gluyas's and I think as a witness to marriage of Mary Glasson & Edward Moyle there is a Bennet Gluyas bp 1789 in Sithney to John Gluyas & Christian or also a Bennet Gluyas bp 1784 also in Sithney to William Gluyas & Elizabeth.....I am thinking more the Bennet bp 1789 as I think he married NANCY HAWKE (Ann) in Helston in 1818 he was also a miner...... ? can you see a connection or not? Now i have written down here (sadly i have scribbled) a baptism for an EDWARD MOYLE 1793 son of William Moyle & Jane Gluyas with other children to the couple - Jane Moyle 1768 - Norah Moyle 1770- Anne 1771 -Peter 1776 - William 1780 - William 1785 -John 1790 So I am thinking the Moyles and Gluyas connection could be here... is there somewhere you can check these names /dates ( i know i'm confusing...i confuse myself) as also there is connections for the Iveys.moyles gluyas and pascoes..... now I am more convinced tis may be my Edward as he was buried in Helston, Lower town aged 72 years on 29th March 1866, if he was bp in August 1793 he was awaiting his 73rd birthday...... after 1861 census there is nom more mention of him in further census...has to be him!! ;D HELP please!!!...am i on the correct path to finding my Edward that married Mary Glasson or back to the drawing board? if it is my Edward his mother Jane died in 1802and father in 1826 aged 88 perhaps he lived with one of his elder sisters (maybe Norah whom married a Stephen Moyle...lol...) Thanking You Joanne

hello all, well regarding the parentage of MARY GLASSON bap St Hilary 4th November 1798, parents I believe to be William Glasson of Marazion & Mary Richards of Marazion. This means that when William Glasson & Mary Richards were married on 29th August 1798 at St. Hilary both residence MArazion, mary was at least 7 months pregnant?... Now I found a bap for MARY RICHARDS at St. Hilary on 27th August 1780 d/o JOHN RICHARDS & JANE HUSSEY . their marriage 5th Aug 1770 John Richards Marazion tinner Jane Hussey Marazion spinster. I think this is JOHN RICHARDS bap ST Hilary 4th April 1747 s/o William Richards and Elizabeth. thinking this Elizabeth married to William Richards is Eliabeth Calamay. Now if correct in above assumptions my Mary Richards bap 1780 would have been 18 at time of marriage and birth of MARY GLASSON.... I cannot for the life of me find anything on Jane Hussey...... cheers any help advice appreciated Joanne

Joanne - it seems to me that you have found 'a' Mary Richards and have convinced yourself that she must be the right one. Just because she and William Glasson were both 'of Marazion' when they married does not necessarily mean that they were born or baptised at Marazion or St Hilary so you need to be careful. In fact what I am seeing here is the start of a potentially long and frustrating garden path! What you need to do is to gather as much information as you can about the immediate family so that you might get some more clues before trying identify Mary. And the first thing that needs to be clarified is whether or not daughter Mary was an only child. If there were other children then their names might offer clues to help identify Mary and also the time-span over which they were born should start to narrow down the period in which Mary Richards might have been born. IF daughter Mary was the only child then you need to ask yourself WHY! There can be a number of reasons why there might be just one child to a marriage including:- Death of one or other parent which is probably the first thing I would look at - in this case you would need to start looking for potential second marriages. There is always the possibility that a lack of further children was caused by some medical complications or other health issues but if that were the case then it might be a fair bet that the above would apply. But there is another reason that seems to bypass the thinking of a lot of people! Just because a person gets married and has a child does not automatically mean that they were 18-25 years old! It is entirely possible that the reason for an only child was that the mother was closer to 40 when she had that child! So before you start jumping all over the shop looking for great-grandparents for Mary I suggest you find out just a little more about her. But I will offer one thing about Jane HUSSEY - FamilySearch has a baptism for:- Jane d/o John and Susanna HUSSY bp. 8th May 1728 Lelant There are two reasons why I very much doubt this would be the Jane Hussey you were looking for:- 1. she would be too old unless the baptism of Mary Richards was delayed by a few years. 2. Jane Hussy was NOT Jane Hussy at all! This highlights another reason to check original records wherever possible! You see the FamilySearch/IGI transcribers have struck again. I checked the CFHS Index of Baptisms for Lelant and then checked my copy of the Lelant Parish Register and found that the record actually says:- Jane daughter of John and Susanna HAWES! CT
