Sarch - what information do you have to suggest that the Mary Quick who married George Pearce in Victoria in 1859 was the daughter of Paul Quick? I can find only one child for this couple - Mary Ann Elizabeth Pearce born 1860 at Ballarat. There are no further children in Victoria or South Australia and no record of a death for George, Mary or the daughter. Anything you have will be appreciated and might help solve parts of this mystery. CT

How about a little food for thought? Charity Pearce, sister-in-law of Paul Quick, cannot seem to be found after the 1841 Census. I have checked FreeBMD and the OPC site and can find no record of a death or marriage for her. EXCEPT - there is a death in the Penzance R.D. in 1850 for 'a' Charity Pearce who 'might' be her. In 1841 Charity was with her brother-in-law in Gloucestershire. In October 1841 Mary Quick (nee Pearce), wife of Paul Quick, dies in Gloucestershire. In 1851 Paul Quick, with children Edward and Mary, is back living at St Ives. In 1851 there is no sign of Charity Pearce yet there is a Charity Pearce whose death is registered in the Penzance R.D. in 1850. In 1851 Anna Quick, supposed daughter of Paul Quick, is 'visiting' the family of John Oats Anthony at Lelant. (John Oats Anthony's wife was Elizabeth Pearce, sister to Mary and Charity.) I offer the suggestion that the mother of Anna Quick might well have been CHARITY PEARCE! There was an Ann Pearce born in the Penzance R.D. in the March Qtr of 1843 - but this is obviously far from conclusive. However - there was also a 'female' Pearce born in the June Qtr of 1843 also in the Penzance R.D. CT

No problems with time. I hae not found her in FreeBMD but it is always possible an entry has been missed. I am still trying to find options to track her down but running out of ideas at the moment. Will keep trying. CT

For those who are interested - I have now seen an original image of the Index Page containing the Birth Registration for Anna Quick December Qtr 1842. I have checked four names from this page at random on FreeBMD and not one of those entries appears. It therefore appears that this complete page has been missed by the FreeBMD Transcribers. The names on the page range from Elizabeth QUEENBOROUGH to John QUILLER. CT

Sarch - I believe the Ann Quick you have found in 1861 was born about 1839 and was most likely the daughter of James Quick and Ann Bottrell. Regarding George Pearce and Mary Quick marriage in Victoria. Okay - so there appears no definite proof at this point. It 'may' be the daughter of Paul Quick but unfortunately there is insufficient evidence to confirm it so I will leave her as an unknown for now. CT

BINGO! I believe I have now found Anna Quick in the 1861 Census! Hannah Quick age 18 born St Ives was working as a house servant to the family of James and Elizabeth A White at Mount Pleasant, Ayr Lane, St Ives. Ancestry has her birth place indexed as Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, St Ives! There are actually a number of Quicks in the 1861 Census with the birthplace indexed similarly. CT

Re: Charity Quick d/o Paul Quick
There was a Charity PEARCE died June Qtr 1850 Penzance R.D.
I need to do a little more checking but I am starting to wonder if this might not actually be Charity QUICK.
Her mother had died in 1841 in Bristol but only a few months before Mary and Charity had been with mary's brother William Pearce and his family.
We know that Paul Quick returned to Cornwall and he was living at St Ives in 1851.
So it might be possible that Charity remained with her uncle's family.
Will investigate the possibility further.

Paul Quick 'may' have married again but if he did he was widowed again by 1851. I have just checked the 1841 and 1851 Census for possible girls named Charity Pearce who could have been the one who died in 1850. All except one have now been eliminated with either burials or marriages being found for the others or else they appear in the 1851 Census. The only one I cannot find a marriage or burial for is the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Pearce who was born at Phillack in 1816. She appeared in 1841 at Hallankene, Phillack with her parents and three siblings. My problem here is that I not only cannot find Charity in 1851 but I cannot find her mother or siblings! Mother Elizabeth was buried at Phillack in 1858 so I should have thought I would at least find her. For the moment I have to call this little excercise a failure. The Charity Pearce who died in 1850 could be Charity Quick but she could equally be the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Pearce. The Death Certificate might give us the answer but I don't think it is worthwhile anyone spending money to buy it. What I can do is check all the PRs I have to see if I can find the entry of burial.
