I see we have a number of new members who have only recently joined so I would like to give you all a big welcome to Penwith Genealogy. And I notice our newest member is 'michaelhtrewhella' with whom I am most interested to have conversation. Hope you all start posting queries very soon and I will do my best to help you all. To 'michaelhtrewhella' - regardless of queries you can contact me via email or Personal Message for which there are icons to the left of my avatar. I look forward to discussing the family with you and especially to see where you fit into the Trewhella family. I have done extensive research on the family so should be able to help you with no problems. CT

Hello there Michael. with a surname like yours I am sure a certain other person round here.... wink wink nudge nudge... will be connected to you soon! I also have some Trewhella connections, but way back in the 17th century, which makes CT and I cousins about 12 times removed more or less!!! Ha ha ! Anyway, welcome aboard and hope you find the information and help you need. If you want to post here, or message the other surnames in your research we might be connected! Afterall, all Cornishmen are cousins at the end of the day! M

Hi Malcolm thank you also for the welcome to this site. I'm convinced I'm related to the Matthew of Zennor mermaid legend, why?.........because over the years I 've been in deep water with a few women lol. Anyway joking aside I hope to find out a bit about our family and maybe provide some information too! Mike

Though not a Trewhella, I am quite interested in the family as Matthew Trewhella, along with Philip Marrack, and their descendants ;D were entrusted with overseeing all the land, estates and properties of James Young, the elder brother of my 4x greatgrandfather. According to his will they were his two friends and 'Gentlemen'. So I hope the current Trewhellas are keeping up the good work! Loolah

Hello Michael, And I must add my thoughts on your good name, but this time your christian name!
Spooky or what but I've just looked at this thread for the first time, and I'm sitting here with a copy of the will of Ffrancis PHILLIPPS 1696 Sennen in my hands (or is it Zennor?).
One of the witnesses to this will is none other than Matthew TREWHELLA!
Good luck, Mike

That would be Zennor I reckon. You should find somewhere in there information indicating he was the father-in-law of Martin Trewhella. CT

I notice that we have had, yet again, an influx of new members - I believe more than a dozen in the last week alone. I would like to welcome you all and hope we are able to help you with your research. Some of you may be very new to family research and others maybe not so new but we will do our best to help you all and hope that you will all stick around to eventually help others and share your research. Best Wishes to all, CT

Hi CT,
Thanks for your kind welcome!! My interest is primarily in the Quick family, as my wife and I share the family name on our maternal grandmother's side. Other Cornish names we have in our family are Gluyas, Parnall or Parnell, Tregoning, Cory, Angwin, Carlyon, Bassett, Jory, & Ninnes.
I look forward to sharing information with you all over this, and only wish other Counties had the same facility!!
Kind Regards
Quicksilver

Hi Quicksilver - I must admit to having taken an educated guess on what family you might be mostly interested in! I guess you will have noticed we have a dedicated forum for the Quicks so will no doubt be having some discussion there. CT

Hi All, I am a descendant of Cornish background dating back to 1000's my linage is Chenoweth (chynoweth) direct descendant of Samuel Hill , the Turner and Patterson line as well as the Nichols , I have so much Cornish blood I could be a Cornish Pasty.
I have been only doing my Family Tree for a couple of weeks but I have been blown away with my Families history. I do have some questions but I will have to write them down and send them to you if you could help.
Looking forward to talking more

Hello Leo, Welcome to the group... not sure about blood in a pasty but might make for a black pudding!!! I have a link to the Chynoweth family, albeit very ancient indeed. According to my information a Mr Treveilisik of St Erth married Elizabeth Tirrell who had a son John Trevilisik. In turn this John's son, John Trevilisik of Chynoweth married a Joane Cardrew, and in turn Stephen their son married Elizabeth Nanfant. In the 12th year of the reign of Edwardus IV, according to Vivian: "....the ancient name of this family was Trevelisick. John, the younger received inheritance from his father upon which he built a new house, "Chy noweth" means the "new house" in the ancient Cornish language. On the extinction of the elder Trevelisick line the inheritance passed to the younger branch who kept the new name Chynoweth"The lines passes on through Michael Chynoweth and Elizabeth Trewinnard, James Chynoweth of St Martin and Agnes Bodriggy until their daughter Ellen Chynoweth (d.1603) marries William Cowlin of Treguenthen.
