Hello I am researching Wallis(h) in St Just, St Ives, Penzance, Newlyn, Madron Quick in St Ives, Penzance Paynter in St Ives - havent got very far with them This is as far back as I go- John Paynter b abt 1724 St Ives m Mary Nance b abt 1728 they were married 01 Jan 1746/47 St Ives. Mary Nance was the daughter of William Nance and Mary Geen Richards in St Ives - this family seems to connect with the Wallis, Paynter and Quick families. Regards Sarch

Hi Sarch and thanks for letting us know your surname interests.
We have already had some small discussion in the QUICK section so I think we may consider that area 'established'.
We have a number of people with interests in the WALLIS(H) so that one can be pursued within the relevent threads also.
There has not been much about the RICHARDS family but you may need to decide the most prominent location for those of interest to you and begin discussions in the relevant section.
PAYNTER, in your case, seems predominently St Ives although they were prominent in many Parishes of West Penwith.
The John PAYNTER you have specified I believe I can deal with although further discussion should again be centred in the St Ives section.
John was buried in St Ives Churchyard in 1786. (I would need to check but I believe the information came from either J.H.MATTHEWS or from Collectania Cornubiensis).
He was age 70 when he died so it most msot probable that he was the following:-
John s/o John and Margaret PAYNTER bp. 19th August 1716 St Ives
John PAYNTER, tailor, married Margaret COCK 6th June 1715 at Lelant
I have not yet gone beyond this last John but some years ago I did some work on the PAYNTER family in general so perhaps some clues might be found in that.
I will have to locate that information and dig it all out.
There may be a connection with the PAYNTER/PAINTER family at Towednack also but that will need to be reviewed and discussed with the main problem being the lack of PRs for the area.
Anyway, there is something to work with so I will look forward to discussions with you.

Hi there; Your connection to the Richards in St. Ives has caught my interest. The family on my Pedigree is John Richards m. Honor B Hingston, to date I have not been able to find their marriage documented yet. I made this connection with a lead given by another person's help with the Hingston Side of the family. www-civ.eng.cam.ac.uk/cjb/hingston/hm.htmI hope this helps.

Hi Snydly Your "CECILIA HINGSTON. Baptized in St. Ives on 14 Jul 1771. On 8 Dec 1794 when Cecilia was 23, she married THOMAS PAYNTER, in St. Ives. "
I don't have this marriage - do you know who Thomas' parents are or his occupation at all?

Snydly - can you give me any idea of when this marriage might have occurred? If I know roughly when it should have happened I might be able to track it down for you. CT

This is probably totally inconsequential: Katherine Hingston of Towednack, no dates, married in 1692 John Trewhella 1655-1716. Six children (or seven?). I cannot recall my "sources". John has a sister Phillis 1657-1699 who married Lambert Martin 1655-1723, from whom I am a direct descendant. David.

David - seven children. John, James, Prudence, Baldwin, Francis, Elizabeth and Malachy. No marriage found but would have been about 1692. John 'possibly' previously married to Elizabeth HAMPTON but I have been unable to confirm if it is the same John. And I am interested to know about the birth year (1655) for John TREWHELLA as that is something else I have not yet determined. CT

David and CT
I can find no marriage for John Trewhella and Katherine Hingston but there are some births for Katherine (one is to late but it might help). Katherine b.3.10.1671 Ludgvan, father is John. Katherine b.4.10.1728 Towednack, parents are Thomas and Grace.
John Trewhella married Elizabeth Hampton 25.6.1679 Lelant.
There was a John Trewhella buried 22.5.1716 Towednack. Can find no date of birth.

That marriage is the one I mentioned and is probably the same John but I have never found enough information to say more than that.
And this was the John buried in 1716 also.
I never had a baptism for Katherine HINGSTON but would suggest that is it.
My records show her as daughter of John and Honour HINGSTON who married at Towednack in 1668 and it is from her family that the names of Baldwin and Malachy appear in the TREWHELLA family.

Heather - that one is extremely confusing to say the least! From my records:- Marriages - LDS Film 0254197 __/__/1650 John the son of Baldwin Hingston [& bride unlisted] Baptisms:- 04/14/1653 John the son of Baldwin Henston bapt. (US date format) And then - From Towednack BT marriages at the Society of Genealogists:- 13.10.1668 Mr Jo HENCHSTON and Mrs Hon HAMON CT

Snydly - can you give me any idea of when this marriage might have occurred? If I know roughly when it should have happened I might be able to track it down for you. CT From the 1851 Census I have the following information: St. Ives, living on Fore Street Susan Hingston Age 43 Head - Baker Honor Richards Age 22 Daughter - Miner's Wife John Richards Age 23 Son in Law - Miner John Hingston Age 19 Son - (something?) assistant So using this as a reference I would guess their marriage to have taken place between 1848 - 1851, with their first child being born in 1854 - named John. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Snydly There was a marriage at St Ives between John Richards, son of John, both miners - to Honor Branwell Carter - father blank. This was on the 21st September 1850. I get the sneaking suspicion that Honour was never a Hingston. In fact given that Susan Carter married Malachi Hingston on the 30th May 1829 it is quite likely that Honour was already born. This is probably why 12 year old Honor Branwell appears below the other two Hingston children in the 1841 census even though she is the oldest. By the way, 19 year old (1851 census) John Hingston was a draper's assistant. Lannanta

Snydly - further to the last. Malachy HINGSTON was baptised at St Ives 17th November 1765 son of Malachi and Mary. He first married Saah STEVENS at St Ives 14th March 1790 and it is my understanding that he was buried at St Ives in 1849. I currently do not have a marriage for his parents and cannot find it in IGI or on the OPC site. But if you happen to have those details I would appreciate them please. CT PS - It's okay - just found it. Malachi married Mary ROSE, widow at St Ives in 1755.
