I would like to extend my warmest Christmas and New Year Greetings to all and hope that the coming years will be happy and fruitful for you all.
And I would like to thank all of those who have helped to make a success of Penwith Genealogy.
Special thanks should be for the founder - Zenobia - and her cohort 'marpleg-a-boynt' (think I got that right Luke?) for actually setting up this forum.
It was meant as a friendly place to visit and discuss genealogy relating, primarily, to West Penwith but has, on more than one occasion, extended well beyond that area.
But who cares!
There has been more than one query that has involved a name not originating in West Penwith and the enthusiasm associated with solving the problem has been outstanding.
None of us here are experts and I would doubt that any one of our members would claim to be such.
But - we are all interested in helping!
We have a very 'informal' and 'friendly' group and I think that is part of what makes genealogical discussion here both helpful and fun.
I am pleased to have been an inaugural member here (gee thanks Zenobia! ) and I have seen things grow from scratch.
Friendships have developed here and I believe a team-oriented approach has developed when it comes to helping new (or existing) members with queries.
But perhaps the most important thing is that we try to help each other!
A number of people have joined here with some reticence because they did not think they had much, if anything, to offer.
My response has been - you have plenty to offer but you probably don't know it!
More than one of these has been able to offer enough to either solve or to help solve a problem that many of us had been struggling with.
And I think more than one of these members might now be just a little more active and helpful than what they ever imagined.
What we are not, however, is a 'reposibory of information' that can be 'tapped', 'quoted', and forgotten!
We are about helping each other and helping others to further their family history and we do so quite willingly.
Crikey - I love Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes etc. and when somone throws up a difficult problem I am happy as 'a pig in poo' ;D and have been known to spend hours on end (I mean lots of hours : 'cos I don't want to let the problem beat me.
This is a caring and sharing place to find help and answers for family history queries, particulary involving West Penwith, and there are many, many people here willing to help in some form or other.
So I ask that everyone with an interest in West Penwith join and get involved and become part of the family.
Every effort is made to find answers but I like to see people learn from their involvement here.
It is easy to ask for an answer to a query and, possibly, get the answer you require.
But there is no real fun or satisfaction in that - except for those that actually track down the information and find the answers.
So my idea is that people get involved with their own query and learn how to find the answers for themselves.
There is absolutely nothing like the feeling you can get when you have tracked down the answer yourself.
We all need help and direction to find that answer and often there can be more than one answer that will seem to fit all known facts.
So to everyone - help us to help you so that you can help others to help us who will also help them and you and ....
Genealogy is a fun game! ;D
But I have rambled - as usual.
To EVERYONE - have a Happy, enjoyable and SAFE Christmas and New Year and I look forward to our future interaction and hope that we can all help each other break through some of those brick walls we all seem to have run into!
Hmmm - I wonder if your brick wall might have been a brother to my brick wall who couuld have been a son by a previous marriage to ....... ;D
