Some facts and some conclusions regarding Paul QUICK.
1841 Census

Paul QUICK, 55, Ind., In County
1851 Census
St Mary, Truro
Castle Street
Paul QUICK, head, widr., 64, ship owner, St Ives
Mary do., sister-in-law, wid., 67, independent, St Ives
Louisa do., niece, unm., 33, do., St Ives
Elizabeth HICKS, servant, unm., 30, house servant, St Winnow
Sister-in-law Mary was nee COUCH who had married John QUICK 19th May 1807 at St Ives.
Niece Louisa was Louisa Johanna QUICK bp. 6th June 1818 Mylor d/o John and Mary. (She married Richard Hichens HODGE at St Ives 5th June 1851)
John and Paul were sons of John and Johanna (nee PAYNTER) QUICK.
Paul, therefore, is postively identified in all aspects but his marriage.
I have no doubt that it was this Paul who married Mary QUICK at St Ives 29th June 1815.
I think the following will support this:-
St Ives Baptisms
12th July 1823 Israel s/o Paul (shipwright) and Mary QUICK - twin to Paul
12th July 1823 Paul s/o Paul (shipwright) and Mary QUICK - twin to Israel
BUT - there is an eight-year gap between the marriage and the appearance of these two children - and no sign of any other children to this marriage can be found anywhere.
We know, from the Census, that Paul was widowed prior to the night of the 1841 Census.
From FreeBMD I have found only two death records for Mary QUICK prior to the 1841 Census in Cornwall.
1838 Penzance R.D. December Qtr Vol 9 Page 117
1840 Penzance R.D. December Qtr Vol 9 Page 187
In each case the District is printed in
italics indicating the entry is suspect.
But now take a look at these Burials from St Ives:-
23rd July 1823 Paul QUICK age 9 days
3rd August 1823 Israel QUICK age 3 weeks
31st August 1829 Mary QUICK age 53
The children are most obviously the young children of Paul and Mary - but what about this Mary?
As I suggested in my first post - Paul QUICK is descended directly from James brother of Francis QUICK and the name ISRAEL has not been traced back to anyone else but Francis.
The indication therefore is that the name probably comes from Mary's family with she being a direct descendant of Francis.
I am as sure as I can be that I have every Mary QUICK for the relevant time-frame and who would be descended from Thomas and Zenobia QUICK recorded in my database.
Working on the theory that she was no older than 48 when the chiuldren were born and no younger than 16 when married I have the following who were descended from Francis and Elizabeth QUICK:-
9th December 1792 St Ives d/o James and Martha (father's ancestry unknown and the name Israel does not appear)
5th February 1776 St Ives d/o Matthew and Mary (father's ancestry unknown and the name Israel does not appear)
30th July 1775 St Ives d/o Robert and Mary - direct descendant of Francis (the name Israel appears two generations previously)
5th October 1777 Towednack d/o Israel and Mary - direct descendant of Francis (father Israel who died in 1821)
28th January 1776 Towednack d/o Paul and Jane - direct descendant of Francis (had a brother named Israel 1779-1854)
Any not included in this list are already proven to be deceased or married to someone else.
These are the ONLY possibilities I can find.
My conclusions:-
Mary was baptised 1777 d/o Israel and Mary.
It is she who was buried at St Ives in 1829 and her age is a match for the above.
With only two children - and both born when she was about 46 - Paul was named after his father and Israel after Mary's father.
Because Mary was already 38 when she married it is probably not surprising that there were no early children whilst at the same time not completely surprising to find at least one 'late-in-life' child.
The fact that both children died within a very short time of birth is, perhaps, an indication that their mother was not a young woman when they were born.
What may be surprising is that Mary lived another six years after the birth.
