I was just wondering if the topic of John Quick and his wife Amy Quick had already been discussed, and if not is anybody aware of who they are? They were married at Towednack on the 27th December 1798 and John was said to be a joiner from Penzance. Their children seemed to be baptised in Penzance and buried at Towednack. Lannanta

As a further comment I am reasonably sure that John appears in the 1841 census at Madron, aged 68 years, millwright, living with daughters Wilmot and Ann.
There was a death for an Amy Quick at Penzance in 1830 making her birth about 1771, likely daughter of John Quick and Elizabeth Richards.

Lannanta - I am sure Amy was the daughter of John and Elizabeth as you suggest. (That is how it has appeared in my database for many years.) There were eight children that I am aware of with the last being Wilmot and Ann who appear in 1841 with their father. An elder daughter, Mary, married widower Moses Luxon LISLE at Madron 23rd July 1837. In actual fact the daughters, Ann and Wilmot, are in the wrong order and with the wrong ages in 1841. Wilmot was baptised 3rd December 1810 (along with brother John) and Ann baptised 24th November 1811. I have not previously linked John to any family - at least not with enough confidence to enter into the database. But on looking at the 1841 Census, considering his age must be near accurate given it has not been rounded down, I can suggest only one possibility. John bp. 28th April 1771 Towednack s/o William QUICK and Elizabeth (nee BARAGWANATH). I presume you have the burial date for Amy - 2nd April 1830 age 59 of Penzance - buried Penzance St Mary (Madron Chapelry). And then there is this:- John QUICK age 73 of Penzance buried 8th September 1844 Penzance, St Mary (Madron Chapelry) That puts his birth right on 1771 and most certainly suggests he was son of William and Elizabeth. (as above) Daughter Elizabeth was also buried there 6th September 1824 age 23. Wilmot QUICK age 74 of Market Jew Street buried 1st December 1883 Penzance St Mary (most certainly daughter Wilmot from the Census) Moses Luxon LISLE age 37 of Penzance buried 13th July 1842 Penzance St Mary Mary LISLE (nee QUICK) age 74 of Mount Street buried 17th October 1877 Penzance St Mary I currently do not know what happened to John or Ann. John bp. 3rd December 1810 was the third child of that name and Ann bp. 24th November 1811 the second Ann. I do not yet have a burial for the first Anne either. I am quite confident now that John was the son of William and Elizabeth and will make the adjustments to my database unless you have another possibility available. CT

Were you aware that John married Ann Roberts in 1837, and had at least four daughters before Ann died in 1853?

Are you aware that John Quick, husband of Amy Quick, died intestate in 1844. John owed a certain Wiilaim Quick quite a sum of money which was unpaid at the time of his death.
Now I am leaning towards thinking that it all has something to do with the following:
With John's intestate papers there is reference to this debt and the parties involved appear to be William Quick deceased, then his executors William Quick deceased and Catherine Quick, widow.
I am guessing that the older William is the husband of Elizabeth Baragwanath. The younger William is his son (died 1842) and husband of Catherine Osborne. And John is the latter William's brother.
Mixed up I know but if you are interested in a puzzle I could provide some transcriptions of the papers.

Firstly - I was not aware of the marriage of John QUICK to Ann ROBERTS. (But I am now ) Just had a very brief look at the 1851 Census - And CANNOT find them! Looks like I will have to play around with names a bit but I will find them eventually. Your next note about the Intestate John QUICK is interesting and seems to confirm everything I have in my database about this family. Matthew OSBORN was Catherine's father. Samuel MICHELL could be one of a couple of that name but not of immediate importance. William died in 1842 (as mentioned) and Catherine in 1759 and certainly everything points to William and John having been brothers. My only small problem is with the elder William given there is no mention of his decease in the section of the document you have quoted. However, having just checked my copy of Hoblyn again it seems that he 'must' have been the William buried at Towednack 3rd June 1771. There appears to be no other William QUICK (unless described as 'son of') buried between the baptism of his last child and the end of 1812. There is an Elizabeth QUICK 'from St Ives' buried at Towednack in 1801 and I was almost going to add the entry as William's wife. But on checking your files it seems rather that Elizabeth (nee BARAGWANATH) will be the Elizabeth QUICK buried 22nd April 1814 at Towednack, age 78. Seems that I need to go back over my earlier Towednack information and update a few things that have been neglected over the years. Right - now to try and find John and Ann in the 1851 Census! Oh Yes - when you get a chance the copies of your transcriptions should prove most interesting.

Just located John and Ann QUICK in 1851.
I was searching using a birthdate of about 1810 which is why I could not find him.
The transcriber who produced the Index read his age as 62 and Ann's as 64 even though there was a three-year-old daughter in the household.
I admit the figure does not look like a '4' but it most certainly does not look like a '6'.
Anyway - Ann wife of John is the other record I found in the Penzance Cemetery Book the other night so that little mystery is near clear.

So John and Amy also had a son named William - I did not know about him! Oh Blimey - looks like I have more work in front of me than I thought.
