Another for a (hopefully) short but separate discussion.
Thomas QUICK bp. 12th August 1810 Zennor s/o James and Dinah (nee RICHARDS)
married 1st August 1835 Zennor
Maria MICHELL bp. 20th November 1814 Zennor d/o Samuel and Mary (nee TREWHELLA)
They had nine children of whom two died young.
Of the rest I know six married but am uncertain about William - however I will worry about them a little later.
My current interest is as follows:-
Maria was buried 14th August 1855 at Zennor - age 41 of Old Poor House.
In 1861 Thomas was at Back Street St Ives - now remarried to someone named ALVINA.
A search of FreeBMD shows the bride as Alvina BROAD.
Thomas QUICK m. Alvina BROAD
Penzance R.D. 1860 September Qtr Vol 5c Page 462
According to the Census she was born at St Hilary about 1822.
Searching IGI for the name ALVINA produced only 25 results for Cornwall so this has to be her:-
ALVINA WHISTLER OR BROAD Pedigree
Female
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event(s):
Birth:
Christening: 11 FEB 1821 Saint Hilary, Cornwall, England
Death:
Burial:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parents:
Father: WHISTLER Family
Mother: HANNAH BROAD
The Census record for 1851
Back Street, St Ives
Thomas QUICK, head, mar, 50, miner tin, Zennor
Alvina do., wife mar. 38, St Hilary
John PEARCE, son, unm, 14, miner tin, St Ives
Nanny QUICK, daur, unm, 14, Zennor
John do., son, 9, scholar, Zennor
Alice PEARCE, daur, 7, scholar, St Ives
George A S GILES, lodger, unm, 21, miner tin, Gulval
Thomas RICHARDS, do., unm, 22, miner tin, Goldsithney
The question is - just who were John and Alice PEARCE, clearly listed as son and daughter of Thomas QUICK.
It seems obvious that Alvina was not previously married although John and Alice may have been her children.
By 1871 Thomas, Alvina and the two PEARCE children have disappeared and there is no sign of another marriage or a death in FreeBMD for Alvina.
At Back Street St Ives three of Thomas QUICKs children, then unmarried, were living in the same house.
Agnes (bp. 1845) married Edward Richards THOMAS at St Ives 9th March 1872.
Nanny (bp. 1847) married David Gyles FREEMAN at St Ives 19th May 1872
John Michell (bp. 1851) married Mary Jane VEAL in 1887
Any thoughts or (more particularly ) help anyone?
