Was stuck at a brick wall with my husbands CARBIS line for nearly 8 years but have had a bit of a break through in the last six months after I refused to give up digging, looking or generally harassing people that cared to listen ;D! Need now to air my recent finds and thoughts, in the hope of spotting something else myself......... or if I am truly honest, harassing your good selves into adding your knowledgeable two penny worth lol!
So here goes.... and please excuse the ramblings of a person obsessed
My husbands 4x gt.grandfather Edward CARBIS (Carbence, Carbance, Carbes, Carbus and so on) was married twice, his first marriage was to a Jane and they had the following children
Jane CARBANCE baptised 29 July 1759 Sennen
Elizabeth CARBENCE baptised 5 July 1767 Sennen
Mary CARBISS baptised 25 March 1770 Sennen
Grace CARBUS baptised 22 October 1775 Sennen
There may be other children between Jane, 1759, and Elizabeth, 1767, but I have not found any (yet!).
I had also not found a record of marriage for Jane and Edward but going by the date of baptism for their first child, Jane, I estimated 1755 to 1759. On Monday I discovered this marriage on the West Penwith Resources site that I think is a strong possibility as it is "just down the road" at St Levan........(How I missed it before I do not know )
St. Levan
21 August 1756, Edward CARBENS Husbandman and Jane THOMAS.
Have not found Jane Thomas's baptism in St Levan but there are a number of Jane Thomas baptised in the area from the late 1720's to about 1740 that are possibles. I know Jane died sometime between 1775 after the birth of Grace, and 8 December 1792 when Edward married his second wife, Beaten GREEN of St Buryan..... Still have not found the record for his first wife, Jane's, burial.
Edward CARBIS I have down as born around 1732 from his record of burial, 9 October 1821 Sennen, which gives his age as 89 years. Have identified only one baptism as a possible from the records I have access to at the moment (Familysearch, Cornwall OPC, West Penwith Resources and the little they have on Ancestry)
Edward CARBENSE 6 March 1733 s/o Edward and Alice of Mawgan Meneage.
Edward must have been a sprightly fellow as at the time of his second marriage to Beaten GREEN he was about 60 years old and she, a slip of a girl, not quite 30 .
They had 5 children -
Edward CARBIS baptised 3 November 1795 St Just in Penwith
Richard CARBIS baptised 15 September 1798 St Just in Penwith (died before 1800)
Richard CARBIS baptised 27 April 1800 St Just in Penwith Died May 1875 (my husbands line)
Jenefer CARBIS baptised 27 February 1803 St Just in Penwith
Elizabeth CARBIS baptised 14 September 1806 St Just in Penwith
After Edwards death in 1821 his second wife, Beaten/Beaton, went on to marry Walter GUY on 11 June 1826 at Sennen.
Now, after all that rambling, what am I wondering?
What do you think on the Edward Carbens/Jane Thomas marriage?
Any ideas on Jane Thomas baptism?
Anyone seen a record of burial for a Jane Carbis between 1775 and 1792?
Has anyone spotted another baptism for an Edward Carbis around the 1730's?
Did Jane and Edward have any other children between Jane in 1759 and Elizabeth in 1767 that I missed?
Does anyone connect up to or have info on any of the people above?
I'll shut up now
Best regards
HeatherC
