In my never-ending search for William Davies of Paul, born around 1800 and married to Mary Gendall I have come across a bit of circumstancial evidence.
There seems to be a core of Davies in the parish of Paul. Unusually many of them have the surnames spelt DAVES
WILLIAM ERASTUS DAVES - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 20 MAY 1827 Paul, Cornwall, England
son of William and Mary.
WILLIAM SEMMENS DAVES
son of Christopher and Phillis
They all seem to have combinations of the names
Thomas
William
Henry
William Semmens Daves appears to have a son Edwin and so does my William Davies (Edwin c1842-1844)
The names James appears to.
Would this suggest that they were in some way related, cousins perhaps. I find some very early Thomas, Henry and William Davies at Paul, mid 18th century and beyond.
It's all very confusing but tempting at the same time.
Just for the record and for posterity, and of course any related families I will give a breakdown of what I have so far.
William Davi(e)s born circa 1800 at Paul marries Mary Gendal daughter of Thomas Gendal
21st May 1826 Madron.
Children
Eliza Davies born 1828 died 1842
William Davies born 1830
Mary Davies born 1833-1839
Thomas H(enry) Davies born born Gulval 1836 married Eliza Jane Rowe 1861
John Davies born circa 1839 married Ellen Bramble daughter of Ellen Bramble
Edwin Davies born b1841 died 1844
Thomas Henry Davies children all born at Penzance
William Thomas Davies born 1863
George Henry Davies born 1865
Mary Jane Davies born 1871
Alice Davies born 1872
Edith Davies born 1875
John Davies and Ellen Bramble's children
John Sampson Davies born 1866 married Annie Vingoe (my GGgrandparents)
Walter Davies born 1867 married Mary Phyllis Maddern
William Davies born 1871
Alfred James Davies born 1874 married Blanche Jenkin
Ellen Davies born 1879
Strangely enough the William Davies elude any kind of trace bar the minimum over three generations!
Anyway, anyone related to any of these people is related to me too!
