Ann - I still cannot find the family in 1891 but I have
possibly found John in 1861.
If, as in the 1901 Census, he was born at Pontesbury, Shropshire the he was quite possibly the following:-
1861 Census - Montford, Shropshire
Montford Village
Edward Griffiths, head, mar, 34, ag lab, Shrawardine, Salop
Margaret do., wife, mar, 37, Great Ness, Salop
William do., son, 11, scholar, St Chads, Salop
Alice do., daur, 5, Alberbury, Salop
John do., son, 2, Alberbury, Salop
1871 Census - Pontesbury, Shropshire
Fords(?) Heath
Edward Griffiths, head, mar, 45, ag lab, Shrawardine, Salop
Margaret do., wife, mar, 46, Great Ness, Salop
William do., son, 21, carpenter, Shrewsbury, Salop
John do., son, 12, scholar, Alberbury, Salop
Thomas do., son, 8, scholar, Montford, Salop
Edwin do., son, 5, scholar, Shrewsbury, Salop
1881 Census - Pontesbury, Shropshire
Fordsheath
Edward Griffiths, head, mar, 53, ag lab, Shrawardine, Salop
Margret do., wife, mar, 53, Great Ness, Salop
John do., son, unm, 22, bricklayer, Alberbury, Salop
IF I have things correct then this is probably the Birth Reg. Details for John. (There was a John in the same district the previous year.)
Births Sep 1859 (>99%)

Griffiths John Atcham 6a 586
AND a possibility for Edward and Margaret based on son William being born about 1849/50:-
1849 Shrewsbury R.D. June Qtr Vol 18 Page 307
Edward GRIFFITHS
Margaret TOMPKINS
Of course - the marriage certificate for John would (should) tell you the name of his father.
Just to complement my previous note regarding the relationship to Joseph POLGLASE:-
Elizabeth Jane DUNSTAN was born at Lelant in 1860 d/o Edward Samuel DUNSTAN and Eliza Jane (nee POLGLASE).
She was the elder sister of the William DUNSTAN who seems to have had a lot to do with starting this whole 'advernture'.
And now I may be able to concentrate on one or two other queries for while in the satisfaction that I did not let this problem beat me. ;D
