Hi guys, the other question...
I have a Philippa Lewarne who married Thomas Colensoe, 14th October 1732 at Madron. She was born c1712 (Madron) and died in Nov 1758 (Penzance). On contacting a present day Lewarne we could not tie this Philippa into his research although the name Philippa does occur in his research it is far too early. Any information on my Philippa's ancestry? Much obliged as ever!!!

Philippa is the only person of the Lewarne family I have in my database. What information do you have that she was born at Madron? Phillimore records her at marriage as 'of Launceston'. This does not necessarily mean that she was not born Madron but Launceston is a long, long way from Madron and certainly raises a few queries. Once again, happy to try and help.

Oops... sorry, you are right, her residence was given as Launceston. Thanks for pointing that out!!!! She marries in 1732 on the 14th October. Her husband is Thomas Colensoe born 1694. The children I have are as follows:- John Colensoe b 1733 Steven Colensoe b1735 Hannah Colensoe b 1736 Thomas Colensoe b 1737 _________ Thomas Colensoe son of John Colensoe born c1658 and married to Katherine (?) on Sept 29th 1688. John Colensoe son of Thomas Colensoe 1614-1653 and Katherine Trewhe(e)l(l)a 1613-1653 Katherine Trewheela seems to be the daughter of James Trewheela born 1582- I do not have a wife's name. James was born in St Erth and appears to be the son of Joh Trewheela. At this point I can go no further- we are already in very murky waters as it is!! Thanks for the help, hope this info can aid any further research!!!

I don't have Steven or Hannah recorded but I do have a Mary also baptised in 1737.
This information all from another source many years ago and I have not yet tried to really work on it myself.
However, the line of Katheren Trewhela that you show is as I have it and is the 'best' scenario I have so far been able to establish.
With so much lack of detail and also lack of resources, particularly for Towednack, it is very difficult to make much more of it.
But Thomas and Katheren Colenso (sic.) had a son William baptised at Madron in 1638 and it is he who perhaps best helps tie part of the family together.
James TREWHEELA of Scilly left a Will in 1699 in which one of those named was William KALENSOW 'living in Penzance'.
From this it, and based on other bequests in the Will, it is taken that William was a 'cousin' of some description.
I cannot be 100% certain of the early part of the TREWHELLA family but I currently show 'James of Scilly' as a nephew to Katheren Colenso.
Best can do for the moment.

Every little bit helps....! Cheers!!!!
I must admit, it is fascinating seeing these "real" Cornish names coming up!!! Because my surname is Davies everyone always reckoned that the ancestors must have been Welsh, my grandfather always refuted this and insisted that his father's family were all Cornishmen. With names like Kneebone, Lewarne, Trewheela, Penberthy, Penprase, Penhall, Vingoe, Trgeurtha and Tremethack all coming up it seems he was right... by Tre, Pol and Pen as they say...!

Does appear to be one or two sort of Cornish names there. I plan, at some stage, to have another serious look at that early Trewhella line given there is a lot more contemporary data now available. It may be that there is nothing further to help but a really good review surely must be a good thing. I may happen to spot something that I completely missed before or a revisit might perhaps spark a slightly different line of thought. Anyway, will keep my eyes open for anything to help you.
