Hi and welcome to our site. You begin your excursions here with a very interesting query which happens to be connected to some work I did on the Quick family only a few months ago. Having mentioned John Quick bp. 4th August 1805 I would gather the Catherine Quick you refer to is the one born in 1852. You ask if her mother was Ann Glasson - and my interpretation of events from the research I did provides the answer YES. If you have a look under Surnames of General Interest and then 'Quick' you will find a subject regarding a Quick Scandal where I have documented much of my findings on this particular family. John Quick was married twice - first in 1824 to Mary DUNSTONE by whom he had, as far as I can tell, only three sons John, James and William. For some reason it appears that John and Mary separated and John had a further seven children by Ann GLASSON who was, at least in one Census, recorded as his servant. John's first wife, Mary, died in 1873 and she also had been married prior to marrying John QUICK. She was also about 17 years older than John. Soon after Mary's death John QUICK married Ann GLASSON - in fact the marriage would have been within about one month afterwards. Your Catherine was the second child to Ann GLASSON but, even though John and Ann were not then married, all seven children were recorded as QUICK. Please let me know what further information you are seeking and I will help as best I can. And I would be keen to know more about Catherine as I have not yet followed that line. Can you tell me when and where she married - and to whom? I look forward to further discussion with you but please let's move it to an appropriate place in the QUICK section of this forum. CT

Hello again. ;Yes I can Ihope fill you in on Catherine Quick's marriage. in first part of 1878 in Penzance she married Henry Eustice(also spelt at times with an'a'). he was son of John and Catherine Eustice who lived in Troon though I think Henry was born in Callwon. Catherine and Henry had 9 living children from September 1878 till 1896 which is same year as Catherine died.Their eldest child Catherine Quick Eustace married Joseph davey in 1906 having at least 8 chidren the third youngest being my uncle William James Quick Davey born 0 9 1916. he is survived by my cousin Roger. The children of Henry and Catherine were Catherine Quick 1879, John and Fred 1882, George 1883, Minnie 1886,Walter 1888, William 1891, Elizabeth 1893,and James 1896. Hope this helps with your research Thanks for your help with mine

It is my pleasure to be of help and I hope you plan to get more involved here and join with the rest of the team in piecing together the families of West Penwith. As for Catherine's family - I do not het know what happened to the three sons from her father's first marriage but, at this stage, would guess they left Cornwall. Of the children of Ann Glasson I know that Sophia married John Warmington in 1865 and had 11 children. John married Jane Gilbert in 1874 and had 13 children. Leonard married Mary Ellen Pearce in 1878 and had at least 8 chiuldren. Walter married Angelina Osborne at Lelant 6th October 1888 and had two children that I am currently aware of. (One of the witnesses at his marriage was Josephing TREWHELLA who was a distant cousin of mine Of Ann and Mary I currently know nothing more. Do you have other Cornish connections?

A little more information for you.
Henry and Catherine Eustice also had a son named Henry born about 1880 at Ludgvan.
I already had Henry and Catherine in my database but had not connected them back to other families. From Census records Henry was born at Lelant and I would suggest that 'Callwon' as it appears in the later Census is actually 'Callurian'.
I have now found Henry in the 1861 Census and he was the son of John and Catherine Eustice and was born about 1855/6.
John Eustice was born at Gwinear about 1827 and his wife was Catherine Thomas who was born at Zennor about 1829 so they were both quite young when they married in 1846.
Can you tell me any more about Joseph DAVEY, husband of Catherine Quick Eustice?

Thank you for the additional information which I will work on after a little more unpacking. There are other people on this site interested in the Davey family so it will be interesting to see if there is any connection. I also have another interest in the Eustice family although mine seems to be usually spelt as EUSTIS. Jane EUSTIS married William TREWHELLA in 1861 in Connecticutt, USA and I have been trying to find out more about her. All I have known over the years was that she was born 'about' 1842 in Cornwall. Since our last messages I think I 'may' have found her but there is still a lot of work to do. I need to check old notes but I seem to recall a reference to Gwithian there somewhere and there was a Jane born about 1840/1 at Gwithian who might just be her. But I think I have another thread already started under 'Trewhella' so I will not pursue it here. Are there any other Cornish names in your history that you might need help with? CT
