Just one more for tonight, I think.
William TREWHELLA m. Jane EUSTIS 28th March 1861 Cheshire, New Haven, Connecticutt
William was the son of Matthew and Juliana (LANYON) TREWHELLA from my earlier thread.
It is Jane EUSTIS who is my problem with this one.
From the US Census records it appears that Jane was born in Cornwall 'about' 1842. (She died in Connecticutt in 1929)
I have nothing to tell me just where she was from or who her parents or siblings might have been so I think I am really clutching at straws here.
William left Cornwall for America sometime after his sister Mary was born in 1841 and it is possible that they left even after 1844.
In actual fact, now that I check my notes, according to Census records the family arrived in America about 1847.
There is an Ann TREWHELLA who married Matthew CURNOW 12th April 1863 at Chesire.
Everything I know about Ann suggests she was born about 1844 and there is an entry in the St Catherine's House Index for an Ann Trewhella in that year.
I had previously thought this was actually Catherine Ann Trewhella for whom I found a baptism record but now have my doubts and think it more likely she was the daughter of Matthew and Juliana.
They had previously named three daughters Ann but the longest-lived of them died at the age of 4-1/2 in 1843.
Oh, and Matthew CURNOW can be traced back to Ludgvan and guess what he had a sister Elizabeth who married a Joseph TREWHELLA at Meriden, Connecticutt in 1867. (But Joseph appears to have belonged to a different family .)
Anyway - if anyone has any knowledge of the EUSTIS (var.) family and may be able to help then please take a huge leap forward. ;D
