My late father, J H Martin, b.Heamoor 1914, buried Ludgvan 1998 with parents Joseph b1875 and Sarah Louisa (King) b1881. Joseph`s father was John Martin b1848, farmed Hellengove , dJohannesburg (when?). Wife Levinia (Rowe) b1854, daughter of William Rowe of Madron and Mary Ann (?). I am trying to trace John Martin`s father, my great-great grandfather. He may have died in a mining accident. Also his wife: Grace? Sarah L Martin`s parents were William Beaney King, b1853, Wilts.,and Thirza Mehala (Ross). Who was WBK`s father? (not on birth cert.) My father was a local journalist and sometimes wrote under pen-name of John Penwith. Bard Dan-en-Hallow. Died Stevenage, Herts.

I have found Zenobia`s GEDCOM file ( from "LINKS") very interesting as regards the Martins of Towednack/Ludgvan, from Lambert Martin(d.1723)/Phillis(Phillipp) Trewheller ( 1649-1699), to son John bap.1678 and to his son Richard (1708-1743), who m.Christian Leggo(e). What has me wondering is the "connection" between Lambert and a much earlier Martin that appears on the file: William Martin (1257-1324), m Eleanor Fitz Peter (or Fitzpiers), daughter Joan Martin (1291-1322), Countess of Lin. The Martin name "disappears" for about 200 years, suggesting that if there is a bloodline linking the two it is through the female line. Any ideas? Or am I barking up the wrong Tree? David.

I haven't seen the gedcom youy refer to, but if the older Martins are the Barnstaple baronial ones then i think we can say that there is probably no connection. Don't forget that "Martin" is not too unusual a surname in either Cornwall or elsewhere.

Good point, Trencrom. The "older" Martins are the baronial ones (lots of them), but I would have thought that all names appearing in a GEDCOM file would, in some way, be related, if only at great distance and in many instances through marriage and not as a "direct" bloodline. The file originates from Azazella59. Any comments would be interesting... D.

A "public" thanks to kernow62 for making available , on CD, the Edward A. Martin book "The Martin Family of Stithians in Cornwall", pub.1986, to which reference has been made on this forum. This "covers" the pre-Towednack Martins, back to "Roger", where we come up with a brick wall....
