For all those who have ancestors with maritime connections, and are able to get to Redruth in 2 weeks' time: At the Cornwall Centre (formerly the Cornish Studies Library) in Redruth, Cornwall, there is a drop in session on Wednesday 8 October between 10 am and 4 pm for those people trying to fin out about ancestors with maritime connections. I belive there will be someone from the Bartlett Museum (Truro) in attendance on the day. I will try to get there to see what helpful tips I can pick up and will post accordingly.

An article is in today's West Briton advertising the event. Will post below, as it has more details than I previously gave Maritime History DayA Maritime family history day is being held next Wednesday (October 8) at the Cornwall Centre, Redruth. Specialist staff from the Cornish Studies Library, the Bartlett Library (National Maritime Museum), and the Cornwall Record Office will be on hand to give advice on tracing seafaring ancestors. There will be family history internet databases, examples of major maritime reference works and back files of Cornish newspapers. Drop-in sessions will run from 10am to 4pm and the event is free of charge. As I does say.. Tidy!

Thanks for keeping us up to date m'dear. Afraid I can't make it but if you do happen along could you, given the opportunity, make some enquiries about the possibilities of finding anything about mariners from the mid-1700's? You should find some of the information I am seeking in the Trewhella Thread entitled (I think) Malachy the Mariner. But only if you are there and have the opportunity.
