Well Team - I can now finally add another chapter to the saga of William Troon LOBB. ;D
In another thread yesterday I made mention of finding numerous entries for people with the middle name of TREWHELLA and have been pursuing some of them.
One of those was the birth in 1899 of Mary Trewhella PEARCE so decided, as one would
, to try and determine the origins and connection of that name - TREWHELLA.
I found her in the 1901 Census.
Parents:-
William John Trewhella PEARCE
Gertrude Mary ROSEWARNE
married Penzance R.D. 1896 December Qtr Vol 5c Page 399
Here we go again - thinks I!
IGI has the baptism for William John Trewhella PEARCE
Born 9th January and baptised 23rd March 1866 at Ludgvan
Son of John and Mary PEARCE
EASY
- especially with three families of John and Mary PEARCE in the Census at Ludgvan at the same time.
Finally got them sorted enough to know that John was baptised at Ludgvan 9th October 1836 s/o John and Ann PEARCE
(If anyone has a listing of the marriages for all the John PEARCE men at Ludgvan from 1813 onwards it would be very handy.
)
The probablem became the identity of John's wife Mary as I still had no link to suggest a reason for the TREWHELLA name suddently appearing.
Searching FreeBMD for marriages in the Penzance R.D. for John PEARCE narrowed the field down to two marriages in 1865.
The two possible brides:-
Mary PEARCE
Mary LOBB
Having done some pretty extensive research on my family over the years I had no record of any connections to TREWHELLA at the right time and was going round in circles and getting nowhere darned fast.
As a last resort I decided to search my database and see what I had for all my Mary TREWHELLAs.
BTW - in the 1871 Census Mary was shown as being 46 - ten years older than John and born about 1824.
Looking at all my Marys and I had only one born about 1824 and guess what
Mary LOBB born 1824 Ludgvan d/o Robert and Mary TREWHELLA
This was the wife of William Troon LOBB!
In the 1861 Census Mary stated she was still married although there was no sign of William anywhere.
But there is a death recorded for William LOBB in 1864 Penzance R.D. and that 'may' be him - although it is possible he was out of the Country when he died.
I really need to see the PR entry for the marriage to John PEARCE but I have little doubt now that his wife was the widow of William Troon LOBB.
Another successful little venture. ;D
