Francis Quick left a Will in 1689 and there is, to me, at least one very obvious and interesting problem associated with it that I have never seen discussed.
So here is the gist of it and I welcome comment and any further information that may be forthcoming.
I don't know whether anyone has picked up on it but unless someone out there knows a lot more than me, and based on the evidence available to us, we have what might be called a rather large problem when dealing with the Will of Francis Quick.
The main points required for this excercise are:-
Will written 5th December 1689 (quite clear on my copy of the original)
Inventory taken 26th December 1689
Will proved 27th January 1689/90
So sometime between 5th December and 26th December 1689 Francis died.
From the Towednack BT's:-
1688
Aug 15 - Joan d. of John Thomas
~ ~ - Francis Quick, senr.
1689 1690
Oct 1 - Francis Quick
Question:- Am I to assume that Francis Quick died and was buried before suddenly remembering that he had forgotten to write his Will?
Even if Hoblyn and other Transcribers have made an error with the year of these burials the actual dates do not work with the details of the Will.
Francis MUST have died sometime between the 5th of December 1689 when he write his Will and the 26th of December 1689 when the Inventory was taken.
He certainly had to be dead by the 27th of January 1689/90 when the Will was proved.
Therfore he could not possibly have been buried in August or October and he could not have been buried in 1688 or 1690.
As for your question regarding the younger Francis - if the year of the October 1st burial is 1690 then I would have to say that it was probably him.
But if 1689 is the correct year then I refer back to the above because he was left a bequest in his father's Will.
