Whilst doing some research on the Thomas Quick thread I had cause to look at Morvah PRs and the Quicks involved there and one name in particular caught my eye - ISRAEL.
Checking my database I have 26 Israel Quicks currently recorded of which there are only 4 that I can say I am unsure of.
Every one of the others traces directly back in the male line to Francis Quick and Elizabeth Randall.
The inference therefore is that those I am unsure of will also be direct descendants of Francis.
The earliest Israel Quick that I am aware of was the son of Francis and Elizabeth who would have been born about 1644.
Israel was named in the Rosewall Deposition of 1680 as 'Israell Quicke of Morvah, age 36'.
It is my opinion that Israel was named after the brother-in-law of Francis Quick - Israel Michell - wife of Francis' sister Phillipa.
Israel Michell is reported to have died at the Battle of Taunton in 1645.
Those Israels I am uncertain of:-
Israel Quick of Towednack married Mary Ann Vine in Victoria, Australia in 1882 - so long as he remained in Victoria I should be able to trace him.
Israel Quick born about 1848 at Plymstock, Devon, son of Paul Quick and Mary Jane Baker.
Paul was born 'about' 1817 and variously gives his birthplace in the Census as St Ives, Penzance or 'foreign parts'.
Israel Quick, mariner of 'HMS New York' - in 1710 Administration of his estate was granted to his father 'Jacob' Quick.
'Jacob' is undoubtedly James and I now think it reasonable to conclude that Israel was the grandson of Francis Quick.
Israel Quick baptised a daughter, Elizabeth, at Morvah 22nd June 1691 and I am in two minds about him.
Israel son of Francis and Elizabeth had three 'known' children - Francis buried 1668/9 at Towednack
John baptised 1673 at Towednack
Mary baptised 1676/7 at Towednack
With a fourteen-year gap between Mary and the baptism of Elizabeth at Morvah in 1691 the question is - are we dealing with the same Israel Quick or is this later man a son of Israel?
And now I need to see if any of this has helped me with the other Quick problems I am working on.
