In another thread malcolmdavies wrote the following:- I have a Joan Nicholas 1620-1685 who married John Vingoe of Sennen and was daughter of Edmund Nicholas too. This Edmund Nicholas left a Will in 1661 of which I only have the barest details. A study of this man and his family might provide the clues to help solve a couple of problems being discussed in the MICHELL and one or two other threads here. Will proved 21st November 1661 Edmund NICHOLAS of Sennen Mentioned sisters Charity HARVEY Jane BOTTRELL Jone VINGOE unnamed grandchildren Daughters - Jane, Grace and Beaton Wife - Grace Son - Thomas Daughter - Elizabeth Daughter - Alice (Eliza?) PAUL Parish of Ludgvan - 2 shillings Parish of Sennen - 1 shilling Son - William (I presume he was the executor) Witnesses:- John Harvey, Richard Williams, Ralph Jeffery Perhaps the Parish bequests give an indication of Edmund's past and it is interesting that he left more to Ludgvan than he did to his 'home' Parish. The bequests to wife Grace and children Thomas and Elizabeth involved the 'tenement of Treborian' - another piece of useful information from which to work. In the absence of extant PRs for Sennen this and other Wills could help us piece together the families of that Parish so if anyone out there has copies of (especially) early Sennen Wills then please post details here. Edmund Nicholas named three sisters - Charity HARVEY, Jane BOTTRELL and Jone VINGOE and each of those families are of interesting to me in one way or other. And I noticed that Malcolm stated Jone married John VINGOE so I would like the source of that information and what other details are available. Perhaps of most interest to people researching the MICHELL of Boscarne line is the fact that, although perhaps a little early, we have a Thomas NICHOLAS involved as well as a marriage with the PAUL family at Sennen. Anyone who can add to this family please get involved and tell us what you can.

I have Nicholas in my tree from Sennen: Thomas Nicholas b. 1671 d.1732 married Elizabeth ? b.1675 d.1715. I do not have the marriage date. They had a son David b.25.4.1703 in Sennen who married Alice Russell in Sennen 3.12.1738. Alice was born 28.4.1706. Their son David married a Mary Pender 11.6.1768 in Sennen. Alice Russells parents were James Russell b.1672 in Sennen and Alice Pengilley b. 1676 Sennen. They were married 14.9.1702 Sennen. Could Edmund be Thomas b.1671 Grandfather?

The short answer at the moment is - Not Sure! It is a possibility although gt-grandfather is probably a stronger possibility. I have not yet tried to link Thomas Nicholas back to anyone as yet due to the lack of available information but I would like for people interested in the Sennen/St Levan area to take a look and offer anything they can. We do know that Edmund Nicholas had a son named Thomas - but the name Thomas Nicholas was not altogether uncommon. Should I get the chance later today I will take a look through everything I have available and see if I can find any further clues. CT

Thanks to CT the following is a summary of the Will of Thomas Nicholas of St Levan - 1637: He gives 12 pence to 'the Parish that shall please God to bury me'
2 shillings each to the (doesn't look like Parish) of Burrian and St Levan
Son RAPH NICHOLAS gets all his rents due from JAMES WILLIAM of St Just for two grist mills called Bussaverne Mills plus something I can't quite work out yet.
Seems some of this money is owed to JOHN WALLISH of St Just.
There is also payment to be made to PETER WHITE, gent..
Son BARNARD NICHOLAS gets six pence and is forgiven 'six shillings ____ he owed me'.
ELIZABETH JOHN his daughter gets 2 shillings.
BLANCH BETTY his daughter gets two shillings
Daughter JOANE gets one shilling and then 'I give and bequeath unto HER ELDEST DAUGHTER JILLIAN(?) my Grandaughter one shilling'
Daughter JANE gets six pence and is forgiven five shillings and six pence she owed him for a bushell of something and is also forgiven two shillings eight pence she owed him for something else.
Each of his Godchildren (unnamed) get six pence.
ALICE his wife gets five shillings.
Son RAPH gets everything else and is named executor and also has to ensure his mother is looked after.
'I do appoint my wellbeloved RICHARD TREWREN of St Levan, gent. as overseer in trust etc.'
Dated 21st March 1637
One witnesses looks like Mary Benettowe and the other is Peter

Hi CP - I presume all these events occurred at Sennen. I have this baptism as 5th March 1748/9 and have just checked the PR Transcript which agrees. AH - I see the problem. This was the date of baptism of his sister Margaret. Will hopefully get back onto this problem very soon.

A question whilst I mull over this and a few other problems. You say your first Edmond Nicholas was born about 1681 and that his wife Margaret Daniel was born in 1688. Do you have information/evidence to substantiate this? Anything that can add to the pre-1700 picture will be most welcome and most useful.

Just a small snippet in case it has been missed. In Phillimores, Margaret Daniel is given as "of Morvah". Roy

Thankyou for this latest Malcolm it is most interesting and adds just that little bit more to our picture of Sennen. I will hopefully take a much better look at it tonight along with some of the other bits and pieces of early Sennen information I have scattered around. Until then I really must check the final couple of new messages and then get a bit of sleep. CT
