Hello All after a very long and (to say the very least) very frustrating absence. Firstly I want to thank everyone for their concern and for all the best wishes which were so kindly passed on to me by Cornishpasty. I still cannot get any response from my ISP so, out of extreme frustration, I hunted around and found another option which has brought me back to you. This new connection is very slow, at least during the day, but at least I can now communicate and participate with you all again. As Cornishpasty pointed out in one of her messages I also had a problem with my PC - it died - RIP. Have now built up a new one which is all but completed but it has taken me a couple of weeks to put together and test etc. Finally got it up and running properly early this morning and this afternoon hooked up the new Internet connection to test. Also mentioned was the fact that I have to move house again which is going to be a major pain as I have to find somewhere to move to and I have to find the money to do it and then I have to actually move all this gear again. AND it looks like I may no longer have a job. But I am still alive and now able to get back into things here. I will take a glance through all the messages now and probably start having some input later tonight, all being well. Thanks again to everybody. Cornish Terrier

My FRIENDS I thank you all and I have to say that I have sorely missed you all along with all the 'fun' we had been having. But I am back and hope to be as active as ever - got to get over the 'withdrawal symptons' somehow. Things may not be as quick as they were but that will be mainly due to this new Internet setup I have. It is fairly new technology (at least to me) and works off the Mobile Phone Towers using a USB Modem little larger than a USB Flash Drive. The system is designed to run off the new 3G Network which is supposedly lightning fast but, unfortunately, the local Tower has not been upgraded as yet. This means that I am basically running at the old Dial-Up speeds. I had to download new drivers and a few other things overnight to ensure all my printers, scanners, add-on cards etc. work properly with Vista and some files were 20MB+, 40Mb+ and even one that was almost 80MB. This slowed things down so much that I was downloading at speeds of only 3 or 4 KB/sec and a couple of files took more than four hours each to completely download. That also meant that nothing else would run very well - if at all. Anyway I will be doing the best I can. Hopefully things will be better once I have ironed out any little bugs that might rear there ugly little heads in this system. Well, must continue checking to see how much catching up I have to do and then get a few hours rest before I start again. ;D Thank you all once again, CT

Great to have you back ;D I do sympathise on the USB thingy - known around here as the Pokey Thing. we have one for use when visiting ancient rellies with no internet access, great where full 3G but diabolical if 2.5 or less. must catch up with everything - I am not allowed to do famhist on husbands laptop when we are away for the above reasons!

Thanks Londoner - will be catching up with you around the Board.
Best request that your husband develops a sense of humour regarding your family history and that USB 'Pokey Thing'.
