I have the Phillimore Marriage Records for Cornwall.
I am quite happy to look-up any name.
Parish and rough year of Marriage would be a help!

I am looking for Edmond(e) Davie (and variants) and Mrs Edmond(e) Davie (and variants) at St Erth Ludgvan, c1560. My research has stopped dead around 1560. The St Erh records start in 1563 so I do not know whether it be possible to go further back in time. Any help or advice on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have checked the Phillimore Parish Records for Ludgvan(1563-1812) and there is an Edmond Davie married to Jane 10/9/1568. Could see no other variants of Davie around that time.
Also checked St Erth (1563-1812) and there is an Anthonye Davie married to an Agnes 8/8/1563. Whether this is the same family ??

Have a look at the subsidy lists for the 1500s to find occurences of this surname in and/or around Ludgvan. They won't indicate family relationships but a comparison of the data therein with the early PR information that you have may suggest possible relationships. Check also the 1569 muster, which listed all ablebodied men in each parish that were aged between 16 and 60. Trencrom

Hi Newlyn, I am looking for full details of a marriage of William OLDS to Sabina LANYON 10 May 1812 in St Buryan. Trying to identify the parents of William to positively identify him. Assistance would be appreciated. There is a record of burial of William and Martha aged in their 80's in St Buryan in the 1830's which may be them (parents of William OLDS above). Thanks, Rob

Hi Rob, Have just had a look for you and the entry in Phillimore merely states: William OLDS, h., & Sabina LANYON 10 May 1812. 'h' is presumably Husbandman. The parish entry may give more clues re the witnesses. Good luck, Mike

Thanks Mike. Anyone know someone who has access to the registers for St Buryan (apart from the CRO)? The transcripts on west-penwith.org only start 1837.

No luck here I am afraid Rob. The Transcripts I have start at the beginning of 1813 which is just a fraction too late. I have found a burial for Sabina (in case you don't have it):- Sabina OLDS age 51 of Church Town buried 1st March 1831 at St Buryan I also found the burials for William and Martha to which you referred. Interestingly - IGI shows no marriage for William and Martha. The only other thing I have found that may (or may nt) be of use:- 1841 Census St Buryan (presumably Church Town) William OLDS, 45, butcer Mary do., 65 1851 Census St Buryan (as above) William OLDS, head, mar., 58, butcher, Paul Mary do., wife, mar., 74, St Buryan Possibly a second marriage - which I cannot find either. (Searched Sennen, St Levan, St Buryan, Sancreed, St Just, and Paul along with IGI) There is a marriage at Sancreed that 'might' be the above but .... 22nd November 1812 William OLDS of St Buryan married Mary SEMONS That's about all I can help with at the moment - sorry.

Hi RobOats
I have had a look farther back on Phillimores for St Buryan.
Williams parents could be William Owls (miller) married to Martha Trembath 23rd June, 1772 in St Buryan.
There is also a John Owld (Labourer) married Sarah Gilbard 13th February, 1779 in St Buryan.
Hope this helps.

Hi Newlyn, I think you are a star, thanks. This might fit. William and Sabina married 1812. Approx birth's therefore about 1780. Found Sabina and she was born 1781. There is a William born to William and ? (Martha?) in St Buryan 1784. According to the burial records William OLDS died 1833 aged 89 which would have made his birth 1744 which would also fit the marriage of 1772

Hi Rob I think Newlyn may be on the right lines with William's parents possibly being William Owls (miller) and Martha Trembath who married on 23 June 1772 in St Buryan. William Olds and Sabina Lanyon called their first child Martha, which looks very promising. You probably already have details of William and Sabina's children, but I found 2 burials that relate to 2 of their children in case you do not have them: Anne Olds of Chynance, buried 6 January 1818, aged a Fortnight. William Olds of Churchtown, buried 14 January 1878, aged 59. As regards the census returns that CT listed, indicating a possible second marriage to a Mary, there is a burial for a Mary Olds of Union Poorhouse, who was buried 6 May 1864 aged 87. This would tie in with the age of the Mary Olds on the census. The Cornwall Centre holds the following transcriptions for St Buryan: Baptisms: 1653-1789 (Ms. Transcript) Marriages: 1654-1837 (Phillimores & CFHS Index) Burials: 1653-1812 (Ms. Transcript) If you need any look-ups just give me a shout
