Families of interest (with earliest known ancestor) include: Watts: Roger Watts m. 1697 Gwennap to Ann Beard Hollow/Holla: William Holla m. 1685 Zennor to Uslea Cock Eddy: Richard Eddy b. circa 1695 m. Joan Richards Prior/Pryor: Henry Pryor m. 1606 Wendron Florence Uryn Arundell: Arundell family, who were lords of Tolverne (line goes on forever!) Oats: James Oats m. 1790 Madron to Dorothy Nickeles Harris: Richard Harris circa 1765 - after 1841 (had a dau. Thomasine who married George Watts) Millwood/Potter: Christopher Millwood m. 1730 Phillack Grace Potter
And as a result of some reading on this website, I have also just developed an interest in the Banfield and Hampton families. I now believe that the Frances Banfield who married Richard Eddy at Lelant in 1741 is the same person as the Frances Banfield, daughter of Edward Banfield and Wilmot Tyack.

WRT James Oats/Dorothy Nickeles I have this record;
James OATS m.Dorothy NICKOLAS 28 Dec 1790.Madron by banns, both of this parish, in the presence of Richard NICHOLAS and William OATS Martha bp.10 Jul 1791.Ludgvan; m.William JAMES 8 Sep 1824.Md Margaret bp.28 Jul 1793.Ludgvan Catherine 6 Sep 1795.Ludgvan Wm. bp.29 Apr 1798.Ludgvan
The identity of James is not clear but by calculation he was born circa 1760. There are no likely candidates that can be identified in this era. Examining the place and spacing and short range of birth dates it is likely that James may have been older and may have died after 1798. This brings in the possibility of my family (which situation relates to my own problem of identity);
James bp.18 Oct 1751.Ludgvan of James/Elizabeth Jennings.
This James had a brother William bpt 1754 who may be the witness.
I have surmised that one of my ancestors was John of this family born 1759.
Note; it is believed that Oats/Watts may be the same family and the name separated in the late 1500's. The family name originally applied as Otts and was interchangeable with Watts. There are sporadic records of the family in St Ives/St Just from the 1300's.

Hi RobOats
Although I didn't have the full details of the marriage (only the index entry) the 1790 marriage between James Oats and Dorothy Nicholas/Nickeles is definately the right one. I am descended from their daughter Margaret (baptised 1793 Ludgvan). She married Edward Eddy at Madron in 1813 and went on to have 10 children (the 7th, Caroline my next ancestor).
Cornish Terrier also made the following comment on the "Welcome New Members" board:
Not sure of the relevance, given I have yet to do any detailed research into the earlier Oats family.
The early origins of the Oats/Watts name as being originally from the same source is interesting - given accents and the like, I can see how the differences could have come about.
