Thomas Glasson, age 29, arrived in New York on 16 Dec 1884 on the ship Arizona, last from Liverpool and Queenstown, Ireland. With him were his wife Elizabeth A. Glasson, age 30, Rosina Glasson, age 6, Thomas J. Glasson, age 4 and Mabel Glasson, age 2.
The 1900 census for South Fork, Cambria Co., Pa., shows
Thomas Glasson, coal miner, b. June 1856, ENG Mary (sic) Glasson, wife, b. Sept 1854, ENG (m. 20 years) Thomas Glasson, son, b. Dec 1880, ENG Mabel Glasson, dau, b. Apr 1884, ENG Christ Glasson, son, b. Aug 1886, New Zealand
WWI Draft Registration Cards shows:
Thomas James Glasson b. 12 Dec 1880, living in Johnstown, Cambria Co., Pa.
Christopher Akers Glasson, b. 21 Aug 1885, living in Altoona, Pa., Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Glasson next of kin.
WWII Draft Reg. Card shows:
Thomas James Glasson b. 12 Dec 1879, Australia, living in Johnstown
Christopher Akers Glasson, b. 21 Aug 1886, Cove Station, Pa., living in Altoona.
Elizabeth A. Glasson (1854-1918) Thomas J. Glasson (1881-1954) Christ A. Glasson (1881-1944)
are all buried at the South Fork Cemetery in Cambria Co., Pa.
No sign of Thomas the father.
Obviously this group was in the Antipodes at some time, but hard to say exactly when, with the conflicting info.
I can find no trace of them in any English records.
Because they lived in the same town as my Joseph Glasson Hampton and are buried in the same cemetery, I am very curious if they have Cornish origins...

Hi Zenobia
Some time ago I transcribed all the BDM's for Glassons in New Zealand from the indexes - hmmn maybe nothing better to do?? Anyway I think that I have this Thomas James Glasson, son of Thomas from Cornwall and his wife Elizabeth Ann JOSE born in a town called Napier, NZ in 1880. I also have a Rosina Mary born to the same couple in 1878 also in Napier.
Kind regards
Allen

Me again
I did notice the name Christopher Akers Glasson as the youngest son - he does not appear in the NZ index, or maybe I missed him. What is of interest is a certain Stephen Glasson, born in 1856 in Victoria, Australia, son of John Glasson and Emily nee Birchall. He married Minnie ACKER in NZ in 1903 and Minnie's maiden name appears in a number of her descendants.

I have copies of the Victorian BDM Indexes that I can take a look at if you think it will be useful. I know there are quite a lot of Glassons indexed but can try and track down any that might be connected with what you are looking for. Let me know and I will start looking. Ian

I guess that explains why I couldn't find them in the 1881 census in England... But they must have gone back there first, as they sailed to America from the UK... Anything more anyone can find out would be much appreciated. I would like to see which Glasson family they trace back to in Cornwall...

HI Zenobia
I have a guess - in the 1861 and 1871 census there is a Thomas Glasson, son of a widow Mary, living at Gwennap, born around 1855.

Hi again
Maybe I can offer a little of the factual information that I have in my keeping.
From copies of entries in the New Zealand book of births I have:
18th September 1878, at Port Ahuriri (Napier), Rosina Mary Glasson, female, daughter of Thomas Glasson a 23 year old labourer from Cornwall and Elizabeth Ann formerly JOSE aged 24 also of Cornwall and married at Truro on the 12th February 1875.
13th December 1880, at Napier, Thomas James Glasson, male, son of Thomas Glasson a 26 year old labourer from Cornwall and Elizabeth Ann formerly JOSE aged 27 also of Cornwall and married at Truro in 1875.
On both occasions the children were present at the registration and the informant was the mother Elizabeth Ann.

Good work Allen and your input is very much appreciated. I will try and look into this a little more in the coming days (just have to sort this place out and get things out of boxes : . As previously stated, I have the Victorian BDM Indexes so if you need anything looked up just let me know and I will do so. BTW - I actually found the relevant CDs last night and they are sitting right here beside me. Must head off to bed.

I have information of an Ann Glasson who married John Tremelling. They were married in 1791 in Crowan. I have been unable to find parents for either John or Ann. Does anyone know where these families might have orginated. I belong to the Tremelling family and would love to correspond with those interested in this family. Sorry that I do not have new information to add for the Glasson family.

Hi I have an interest in the Glasson family although my family was centred around Madron. However, I have over the years collected information about the families from Crowan and Camborne. I do not have a record of the marriage of Ann Glasson in 1791 and was wondering where you came by that information? If you can let me know I might be able to add to it. Lannanta

The IGI has this marriage included as 'about 1791 Crowan'.
Looking at Phillimore I can understand why:-
John [----------] & Ann [-----------] [---] May 1791
That is the entry as it appears and I would suggest (as I have been forced to do in the past) that other events or information have led to the conclusion that it is John TREMELLING and Ann GLASSON.
There are birth/baptisms at Crowan for two children of John and Ann TREMELLIN - John born and baptised in 1792 and then Ann born 1793 and baptised 1794.
I think there is little doubt the groom was John TREMELLIN but there must be other information linking Ann GLASSON as the bride.
If we can find a continuation of this family in another Parish (i.e. further children) we may be able to work out who they were.

Hello again
For a marriage in 1791 my records show two Ann Glassons baptised in 1767 or thereabouts in Crowan. Most of the other Anns appear to be from the Madron side of the family.
The first Ann, bap 18th September 1767 in Crowan was the daughter of John Glasson and Ann Hampton. According to my records she married William Caddy in St Hilary in 1792.
The second Ann was baptised a week later in Crowan, the 25th, to Robert and Jane Hampton who had been married on the 11th September 1762 at Gwinear. Three known Crowan siblings for Ann were Robert, Eliza and of course Jane.
So ignoring the fact that the wife of Mr Tremelling may have been a widow before she married him, and assuming that she was from Crowan or thereabouts, I would propose that Ann, daughter of Robert and Jane would a good starting point.
It would be worthwhile trying to confirm the above parents before moving to who Robert might be - although I have the sneaking feeling that he is the Robin Glasson baptised on the 8th November 1741 at Camborne to John Glasson and Ann Perkin.
Lannanta
PS I have a vague recollection that the two 79 year olds, John and Ann Tremellin at Horse Downs in the 1841 census at Crowan are the couple in question, although the ages are a bit off. Other names there in the house are Ann and Elizabeth and a very young James.
PPS A search of the IGI in Crowan for a John and Ann gives the following Tremellings - John, Elizabeth, James, Edward, Jane and William - no Robert - bugger.

Don't be too disheartened - the only record IGI for a Robert in the family was Robert TREMELLYN baptised 19th March 1709 at Gwinear s/o Alexander. That is a long time before the one we are looking at and it is always possible they never had a son of that name. CT
