This is hopefully the start of some posts in which I will be providing some details of a number of 16th and some early 17th century wills for Zennor folk which are not in Kathie's current probates database. I am not going to provide transcriptions or full abstracts owing to a combination of limited time and limited internet access and various other commitments, but hopefully what I will provide will be of assistance to others researching family history in this parish. If you want further details of this or any other will you can obtain copies of them from the Cornwall Record Office. They have a form for this purpose which is downloadable from their website.

Trencrom - thanks for this and for your offer of help to us all. I had an abstract of the Andrew Harvey Will done some years ago by my cousin in Truro and this is what she found:- ANDREW HARVEY of Zennor Will written February 1712 Will proved 27th October 1713 daughters: CHRISTIAN MARY named: MARY TREMEARNE PAUL TREMEARNE MATTHEW MADDERN URSULA TREMEARN JOHN STEVENS grandsons: WILLIAM STEVENS ANDREW STEVENS named: EDWARD STEVENS MATTHEW STEVENS VIVIAN STEVENS brother: BENDIGO HARVEY You will note a couple of differences. The brother will, I think, no doubt be 'Abednego Harvey'. 'Abednego' seemed to be a name common to the far West of Cornwall during this time period and can be found more often (from memory) around St Buryan and Paul areas. Andrew Harvey's Will was proved 27th October 1713. I believe Matthew Maddern was the man who married Mary Harvey at Zennor 22nd April 1693 and was, therefore, Andrew's son-in-law. I am not yet sure of the Tremearne (sic.) connection but that will be worth looking at in the New Year. There was a Paul Tremearn who married Cecilia Pearce at St Ives 14th January 1693 so it is possible there was a connection here to Andrew Harvey's wife (whose name remains unknown). Ian

Comments and analysis:
John Christopher's wife is here proven to be Phillip(a), daughter of Richard Davy junior. see "Davy of Zennor thread, page 1".
The identity of the godchildren is unclear, although clearly they are relations from the surname. "Abigail" is not too common a given name, and appears in the Michell family in the will of Thomas Michell of 1621, and in the Perry family of the 1680s. I am not suggesting though that these two Abigail's are one and the same person, or even connected --the evidence thus far does not show that.

After some consideration, I have decided to group the summaries already posted together into just the one thread, in case multiple threads for the summaries proved to be confusing given that other threads for some of the relevant families already exist on this site.

I will leave the Michell Will for now but would like to make some comment on the Will of John Christopher. I would like to know if the date provided is the date of 'writing' or the date the Will was proved. The reason I ask is because of a copy of the Will of one Richard DAVY, yeoman, of Zennor which was written 3rd March 1644. Richard DAVY had a daughter named 'PHILLIP' who, in the Will, was not described as being married. However, Richard also had a son named MARTIN who was married to someone named 'Elizabeth' sometime before 1642. (Working from references made in Richard Davy's Will.) Apart from the dates of the Wills, this would appear to be 'a match'. Clarification of some items will be required and let us see what we can find. Ian

Perhaps you could provide us with your transcript of this will. I would suspect that any changes marriages status would prompt a new will or a codicil.

Welcome parnel - and your comments are interesting and worthwhile. But I will need you to remind me about my transcript given that I need to find it amongst the boxes since I have moved. And I apologise for not responding earlier but your message must have slipped through at some stage whilst my ISP was down for the last six weeks. As requested - please remind me and I will located my copy and transcribe it for you and will then look forward to further comment. Ian
