Any one know who this man married? I have christenings for the children but not a marriage record.
James' children were as follows:
Charity, christened 10/31694-5 at St. Ives, James, chr. 27/3/1698 ditto, marr. 28/10/1725 to Bridget Noble, Richard, chr. 24/10/1703 at Uny Lelant, marr. 2/12/1729 to Elizabeth Anthony, 4 children, buried 24/3/1753, Anne, chr. 10/2/1706 at St. Ives, Christian, chr. 13/2/1708-9 at sT Ives, see below, Mary, chr. 27/12/1712 at Lelant.
James was buried at St. Ives on 8/11/1712. An Ann Safeguard, who possibly was his wife, was buried on 9/4/1714.

Did this family originate in Zennor? The burial there of an Elizabeth Safeguard in July 1665 got me wondering if this was a possibility, although I have not found the name there any earlier than that in the surviving local BTs, whose coverage is admittedly very patchy.

So far unable to supply the name of James Safeguard's wife either but Ann is a distinct possibility.
She seems to be the last Safeguard buried at St Ives up through 1753.
A search of IGI produces only 76 entries.
Most are St Ives and Lelant with a few later being Gwithian/St Hilary area (mid to late 1700's and into the 1800's) which are not of much help.
There are a couple of entries around the 1700 +/- era :-
John Safeguard m. Sarah Jacka at St Levan 29 December 1701 (Another IGI entry shows this marriage at Sennen)
It appears probable the Marriage was at St Levan. Phillimore & Taylor record the event in that Parish and it is printed in standard format. P&T also have an italicized entry for the same event at Sennen.
Sarah d/o John Safeguard bp. 11 May 1702 at St Levan
About 1746 seems to be the first entry at Sancreed.
From about 1718 there seem to be a few events at Gunwalloe for the Safeguard family.
James s/o John & Asenath Safeguard bp. 10 August 1718, Gunwalloe
And Gunwalloe is where James Safeguard married Bridget Noble in 1725.
As for the ZENNOR connection - I don't think so. I have checked the 1641 Protestation Return and also the 1662/1664 Hearth Tax for Zennor and there is no mention of the name.
Also of interest is that the name SAFEGUARD does not appear at St Ives in the 1641 Protestation Return.
However - George SAGARD is shown as signing the document on the page entitled "A note for the name of Strangers"
I would suspect this could be connected but it is unlikely he could be the man who married Sibella Trevascus at St Ives in 1664.
That seems to be about the best I can do for now so will leave it with you for a while.
