Hi everyone! As a newbie to the wonderful world of tracking down your ancestors, I'm finding it both wonderful and frustrating. Anything you are able to contribute will be very welcome - it's quite difficult to do from this side of the world! My great, great grandfather was William Quick, born St Ives c. 1841.
William seems to come from a family of 8, all from the st ives area - Richard (born c. 1829), John (c1831), Christiana (c. 1832), Elizabeth (c. 1834), Alice (c. 1831), Paul (c. 1838) and Catherine (c. 1845). Seems to be son of Richard (c 1811) and Alice (c. 1806), nephew of Paul (c. 1806) and grandson of Elizabeth (c.1781). I can't be certain of any of this, however.
This William Quick shows up in the Llanengan 1881 Census (in North Wales) as Lead Miner, 6 Children. He lived in Dolgellau, Wales, in 1871. I can trace the story from there - kind of - but would really appreciate any help that could be given to shed more light on his family in/near St Ives.

Hopefully, a little more on the Quicks. Richard Quick who married Elizabeth Daniel could alternatively have been bapt.22nd. sept.1776 the son of Paul Quick and Elizabeth. In fact I would go for this one as he in turn had a Paul. Paul Q. married Elizabeth Quick 27th.jan.1772 at St.Ives. Paul Q. senior bapt.17th.apr.1752 at Towednack. He was the son of Paul and Grace Quick. So to sum up, I would suggest the line goes. Paul and Grace Paul and Elizabeth Richard and Elizabeth Paul and Alice Good hunting, Roy

Hi Roy With respect to the following: So to sum up, I would suggest the line goes. Paul and Grace Paul and Elizabeth Richard and Elizabeth Paul and Alice Good hunting, Roy I would suggest that Paul, the son of Paul and Grace nee Berriman, married Jane Quick and they did not have a son called Richard. Ian (Cornish Terrier) will be back soon I hope and he is the resident expert on the family. He will certainly have your Quicks in his database and will be able to provide some good advice. Regards Allen

Thanks so much to all of you for your help. This is a great start. I also have a thread dedicated to this under "Quick". Hope to continue the exchange of information!

OK All - I am back and will try to look at this problem for you. I have done quite a bit of work on the Quick family in the past and, as has been mentioned, have quite a bit of information. There are still areas of concern but I hope to be able to solve this particular problem with not too much difficulty. As discussion has been transferred to the 'Quick' section I will try to answer there. If not already done I would appreciate some further details on the William Quick of Wales. (e.g. name of wife and children with any further details that may help me identify him correctly.) At this point in time, from the information supplied, I would suggest the possibility that your William may have been the following:- William Daniel Quick bp. 16th August 1840 at St Ives as son of Paul Quick and Alice (nee Hosking). William Daniel Quick was married sometime before 1863 to Mary Noall (m.n. unknown). I am currently aware of only two children - Mary S Quick bn. St Ives about 1863 and William Daniel Quick bp. St Ives 2nd July 1875. The large gap between these two children combined with the fact I am yet to find the marriage suggests the possibility that this may well be your man. If so then William's father, Paul, was the son of Richard Quick and Elizabeth (nee Daniell) as mentioned by Roy. Alice Hosking was bp. 17th September 1803 at Lelant as d/o John Hosking and Catherine. Will try and continue this on the Quick Thread when I get to it. Ian
