Hello! I am new to this site. My late father was a Bard of the Gorseth, Joseph H Martin and he was a journalist on "The Cornishman" until 1952, when we left Trezelah, Gulval for Herts. I am working on a Family Tree which incl. his father, Joseph d1949 buried Ludgvan and mother Sarah Louisa (King) buried Ludgvan 1950. My great g-father was John Martin b1848, farmed Hellengove, m.Levinia (Rowe): she was a widow at Castle Gate, No.46, in 1901.John had a brother William b1855. John died RSA 1890s? I am trying to "pin down" John`s father, who may have died in a mining accident in an adit. Also: Sarah Louisa`s father was William Beaney King, b1853, Wilts. No father on birth cert. Who is he? Mother is "Sarah King". WBK taught the future Prince of Wales archery and shooting. He married Thirza (Ross), Dorset 1876. The Bolitho family may have been his employers in several locations (Wilts., Dorset?). My great uncle Tom was i/c Home Farm at Trengwainton which was in the Bolitho family. Any answers to these questions would be appreciated. David.

Hello to a very Cornish person - David. I must make this note short as I am trying to move belongings to a new home. You certainly have some history there with your father being a 'Bard' and also being a journalist on 'The Cornishman'. Perhaps, given this history, you need a bigger welcome. I will help as much as I can - and as soon as I can but, unfortunately, have other things to look after before I can do too much. Must get packed and moved by the end of next week. However the Martin family is of interest so will be catching up with you. Looks like Sarah's father may have been an illegitimate child from what I read here. And you mention 'Trengwainton' which is familiar territory for me. Members of the Trewhella (var.) family worked there in the early 1800's (and possibly later in that Century). I would need to check all my information to confirm dates but I believe there was a long tenure for the family. Will try and look further into this once I am settled in my new abode. Ian

Sarah Louisa: that would appear to be the case. Family legend has it that there is an "aristocrat" involved somewhere. David.

David - I think it is now time to move this conversation to a more appropriate thread. Perhaps Gulval if that is where the family was most predominent. Please think about it and let us know and if a new section is required then Zenobia will, I am sure, look after it. Ian
