I've not been here for quite some time, so Hello again! Reading through my written narrative of the Young family history, I realise I've never found a death for Jane Young (nee Tonkin/Tonken). She is the daughter of Ralph Tonkin and Faith Rodda - baptised on 8 September 1771 at Madron. Jane married James Young on 17 March 1798 in Madron. They lived in St.Ives where they had nine children, the last, Andrew, born in 1812. Husband James, died in 1840. There is a death in Mabe of Jane Young in December 1853. At age 84 she could be 'my' Jane but I don't know for certain. While I wait to see if there are any clues on her death certificate, I thought I'd see if anyone recognises Jane. Thank you. Loolah PS Extra big 'Hello' to CT if you are still doing all your hard work on here.

Hi Loolah and Welcome Back! And yes, I am still about and working on various families. I have not looked at the Youngs probably since your last visit and I see my database entry for Jane has not been updated since 2012!! I think the Young name might have come up a couple of times over the last several years but there was nothing connected with your family. However, on reading your note the first thing I have done is to check the 1851 Census. Unfortunately I have to say that I am convinced this is not your Jane. The 1851 Census entry for Jane Young at Mabe age 80 shows that she was actually born at Mabe. Now, at that age and also depending on who provided the information it could be possible that information was not quite correct. However, the clincher is that this Jane has a widowed daughter living with her - Magdeline Mitchell age 54. Magdeline was also born at Mabe around 1796 so this is certainly not directly conected to you. www.ancestry.com.au/imageviewer/collections/8860/images/CONHO107_1911_1912-0345?ssrc=&backlabel=Return&pId=17033770In fact Magdeline appears to be an illegitimate child. The baptism entry from the Mabe Parish Register:- 1797 January 23rd Magdalene Daughter of Jane YoungChecking further on the OPC site suggests Jane may not have actually been married. A quick search for further details offers this:- John Young and Jane Rowe, spinster, were married at Mawnan 17th February 1770 Jane daughter of John and Jane Young baptised 6th January 1771 at Mabe Ann daughter of John and Jane Young baptised 3rd October 1773 at Mabe According to the OPC database there were just two Young marriages during the 18th Century where the bride was Jane or Jenifer or any other variation. The first was the above marriage at Mawnan in 1770 and the other was the 1798 marriage at St Ives for James Young and Jane Tonkin. I will try and do some more hunting to see if I can find any trace of your Jane. CT

One addition to my previous - it would appear that neither Jane nor her sister Ann young of Mabe were married. In the 1841 Census you can find Jane, Ann and Jane's unmarried daughter Magdalene living at Helland Mill in Mabe along with a Mary Young age 75.
Jane, Magdalene and Mary Young were all agricultural labourers whilst Ann Young is recorded as being a 'merchant'.
Not sure what connection there might have been to Mary but she would have been born several years prior to the marriage of the parents of Jane and Ann. And as there appears to be no record of a Mary Young baptised during the period from 1757 to 1789 it may be that she actually was a widow.
There are four possible marriages - 1. 1798 William Young and Mary Jobe at Mylor 2. 1802 Thomas Young and Mary Froud at Falmouth 3. 1806 Arthur Young and Mary Wouters at Falmouth 4. 1807 Henry Young and Mary Trethowan at Mawnan
As there appears to be no connection to the family at St Ives there is little point in pursuing these but at least the information is useful in helping to eliminate the family from calculations.
