Hi.
I am wondering if the brainstrust here could clarify my "bride" and her parentage?
My 9x grandfather, Edward Rosewarne (1604-1666) married Susan Edie on July 18 1641 in Breage. I have been under the impression that Susan's parents were Phineas Fosten EDIE/EDDY (1593-1641) and Katherine COURTHOPP (1594-1639). However, looking broadly at the family, I see that all other children I have listed (Peter, Mary, Abigail, Anne and Margaret) seem to have been born in Cranbrook, Kent (like their parents) with the exception of Susan, who appears to have been born in Breage.
Do I have the wrong parents for Susan? If anyone has any information, I would be very appreciative.
Thanks, WendyLou (in Australia)
CORNISH FAMILY INTERESTS: Wallis; Rosewarne; Laity; St Aubyn.

Hi WendyLou. I don't know much about your particular line, but just a couple of thoughts. When you get back that far at some point baptisms weren't recorded or the register has been lost. If Susan was born/baptised in Breage, it most certainly would not have been to parents who were born, married and died in Kent. Edward Rosewarne appears in 650 trees on Ancestry. Where Susan's parents are recorded as Phineas and Katherine, none are showing any source. One person added her to their tree and all the others have copied. I'm interested in Edward because I think I may be related to him, possibly through a brother which I haven't sorted out yet. But I thought you might be interested in the seating plan for Breage Church in 1666 (someone posted it on Facebook recently). I think both Edward and Susan are shown. The plan is of interest to me as it shows Eleanor Kitto (my 9xgreat grandmother), John Winnon (8xggf) - his mother in law Grace Clise (9xggm) and Honor Bastian (8xggm). Cheers - also from Australia S

Hi S Thanks for your very logical reply. I feel this may be a correct premise. I also have Winnans (I note the different spelling) in my tree in the 1700's - the link is with Margaret Rosewarne/Rosewarden (nee Carpenter) b 1714 d 1757. The seating plan for the Breage Church is great - thank goodness for FB! Thank you again, Wendy (Qld)

Margaret R married Edward Winnan who was the grandson of the John W on the seating plan. Edward is my direct line (6xggf). There seems to be a lot of missing parish records for Breage around that time. I'm not convinced that Margaret's mother was Grace Carpenter, mainly because the baptism record has her mother as Ann. But then there's no marriage record between a John Rosewarne and anyone named Ann. There are a few variations on the Winnan spelling. My branch that came out to South Australia had morphed into Whinnen.

Thank you for this! It's all such a challenge .... but fun, nevertheless! :-) W
