Whilst looking for something else I stumbled on www.hathitrust.org which has all sorts of resources. I found Calendar of Patent Rolls for Henry VII and searched for anything to do with Cornwall. Lots of Cornish families mentioned although the surname spelling is a bit haphazard. Could be a great resource if you're searching beyond parish registers.

Thanks, Jersey Girl, that seems a really good source for these digitised books. It's worth searching the catalogue to see what's available for Cornwall. I see that there is quite a complete set of the calendared Patent Rolls, for various reigns from 13th century to the 16th. There are also other State Papers which could be useful, particularly the Inquisitiones Post Mortem, including a guide to Devon/ Cornwall references they contain in "A calendar of inquistiones post mortem for Cornwall and Devon, from Henry III to Charles I (1216-1649) Comp. and ed. by Edward Alexander Fry".

Many of the Devon and Cornwall inquisitiones post mortem have been abstracted. I remember looking through a lengthy set of typewritten abstracts that were held in volumes in the Westcountry Studies Library quite a few years ago, when it was still in Castle Street. WSL is of course now part of the Devon Heritage Centre. If you find a name in the calendar that you are interested in, it would be worth seeing if it also appears in these volumes. Trencrom

You need to be a member/current student/connected to participating institution. I have a guest membership through the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor which my parents attended. My university is not linked in. I can't see everything as there are copyright restrictions.
An excellent resource while not always accessible from abroad.
But, go for it!

Zib Here in the UK I've managed to sign up for a University of Michigan Friend account which gives me Guest access to the collection after logging in. I haven't yet found any copyright restrictions which prevent me viewing works in the library and even downloading individual pages - possibly there could be problems if you want to download complete works.
