Thank you, Lannanta,
I have arrived at the same conclusion. Joseph was the best match re: age. I had figured out Nos. 1-3 but was struggling with the latter two, so thank you for that information. I liked the later date of birth for our prime candidate. Now I wonder where Honor's son and husband ran off to (if they did) because I can't find California death records of burials for either.
Voter records have me confused as to how many Josephs were in the area at the time although not my target research.
Thank you for your help,
Zib

Zib
I spent some time scrolling through the myriad of documets that was the "wash up"of Honor's assets as she died intestate. But I do remember that all three children signed after finally being paid one third of her final estate. And without looking again I am sure the eldest son, John M., was in barracks. I will recheck and see if I can confirm that.
Yes I have just checked, when he receives his inheritance he was at the Vancouver Barracks. He signed as John M. Glasson and stated that Honor Glasson was his late mother. So maybe Canada and not California.

I forget (silly me) to think North as I am as far in that direction as I want to go! As this family (and many) followed mining opportunities, I was thinking Mexico or South America. I am still hoping to find two of my Williams relatives -- a Jakeh and son Zachariah who went somewhere! Dust in the wind so far.
We keep working it, don't we?
Cheers, Zib

Playing all of my cards, a DNA Match has linked me to descendants of Zachariah Williams and Margaret Miller Webb widow of Henry Augustus Shutt in Australia. They had 4 children and he is understood to have deserted the family in 1887. Youngest child Albert Charles was born 1885 in Beaconsfield, Tasmania. Still seeking Jakeh.

Zib - I don't know if you have seen the Tasmanian Names Index but here is the link:- librariestas.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/names/Just type 'zachariah williams' into the box at the top of this page and hit the enter key and it will come up with a list of 5 marriage and birth records of interest. If you click on any one of these it will take you to the relevant record then just scroll down a little to view the image. If you want to download the images look to the left on the pink toolbar above the image and you will find the 'Download copy' link. CT
