The DNA train has dropped me off in Grass Valley California. Right now I am at about the 12th cousin level with my match, and I know that doesn't "work"
So far I've kicked it back to Joseph Glasson and Honor Major Mi(t)chell. Lannanta, can you help me identify Joseph?
There are Simmons/Semmens involved, but I am stuck there. And the "r" key is dying on my keyboard. gah

Zib - could you elaborate a little please? I thought I would take a quick look while I have five minutes but can get nowhere on the information provided.
What time period? Where? Any details of Honor Mitchell?

Zib There was a Joseph Glasson in Grass Valley arriving in 1853 with his married brother John.. he was born in 1844 in Redruth to John Penhall GLASSON and Honor BISHOP. Joseph died in 1869 at Grass Valley and is buried in the Odd Fellows and Masonic Cemetery. I was not aware that he married. However, I do note that a Honor M Glasson, married, of Grass Valley, born in England, died in 1894 and is buried in the same cemetery as Joseph, although Joseph shares a headstone with his brother James. I note also that in the newspaper "Morning Union" she is stated to be the relict of the late Joseph GLASSON.
As a matter of interest Honor BISHOP was the daughter of William BISHOP and Grace MICHELL.

Thanks! They married sometime between the 1871 English Census and the 1880 US one. Daughter Elizabeth is also called Ruth Elizabeth by family and was born about 1877. She married Court Simmons Hicks. My connection is to him, but I can't tie him to any of my Semmons crew as yet. I've found 3 children for Honor & Joseph: John Aug 5 1873, Elizabeth 1877-ish and Joseph Feb 8 1879. From what I can tell, only Elizabeth married. Nov 28 1901

I think Honor (born 2nd Qtr 1847 St Ives) was the daughter of William Semmons Michell and Thomasine Kernick Noall, but I could be wrong.

Court was the son of Henry Holman Hicks and Anna Maria Provis. The best guess I have re: Henry is an 1847 birth with mother's maiden name Holman, but that's a few years younger than he appears to be. Anna Maria's mother, Amelia Pearce 1838, seems to have been illegitimate. This one is a toughie!

Thanks for that, Londoner! I share DNA with three descendants. I am suspecting a Holman-Trewhela link but not ruling out the Semmons. It looks like Crowan anyway. The search is fun.

Zib - you may have another link you have not recognized! Thomasine Kernick Noall was a sister to Betsy Noall - the wife of Benjamin Trewhella and my 2xgreat-grandmother!!! Will try and look more closely at all of this later tonight if I get a chance. The next couple of days are edging towards a 'resumption of battle' in the fires not so far from here. CT

On the Glasson angle, this seems to go back to Hamptons and Christopher Cock. It is an interesting set of matches.

I have come to the realization that the husband of Honor Major Michell was not the son of John Penhale Glasson and Honor Bishop, because his children were born after the death of the Joseph buried with James. He was living at the time of the 1880 Census. Back to the old drawing board! Candidates from the GRO index:
Joseph born 1st Qtr 1843 Penzance RD - Mother's maiden name Taylor Joseph 1st Qtr 1844, Penzance RD, mother Quick Joseph 2nd Qtr 1844, Helston RD, mother Russell Joseph 4th Qtr 1845, Penzance RD, mother "Cur..." Joseph 1st Qtr 1747, Penzance RD, mother Michell

Zib ...... and I think this is your man.
In the Will and Probate records of Honor Glasson in 1898 one of the property appraisers was Josiah Glasson.
Josiah was also the son of William Glasson and Elizabeth Ann Curgenven. In his obituary of 1913 it states that he was 40 years at Grass Valley with the mines there and he was also a prominent Mason.
That would explain the Masonic burial cemetery for Honor.
Josiah was said to arrive in the USA about 1865.
