Given how arduous the voyage must have been in the 19th Century from England to America in steerage, it isn't surprising that once my ancestors from that era arrived, they mostly stayed put. So it was remarkable to encounter someone from Illogan who appears to have made no fewer than 10 crossings. Harry Woolcock is not a direct ancestor; the connection is that he was the brother of Amelia Woolcock who married William John Lawrence, my Grandpa's second cousin. Here's the chronicle as I've pieced it together, for anyone who may find it interesting.
1883 30 Apr -- arrival of ship Devon from Bristol to NY with passengers (in steerage):
WOOLCOCK, Thos, 28; Amelia, wife, 28; Harry, child, 8; Thos Edgar, child, 1
1884 25 Feb, Ketchum, Idaho -- Ida daughter of Amelia and Thomas Woolcock dies, aged 7 months
1885 Dec, Idaho -- birth of Amelia Woolcock daughter of Thomas and Amelia
1886 27 Nov, Ketchum, Idaho -- Amelia Woolcock wife of Thomas dies, aged 32

1897 July -- H. Woolcock, 22, farmer(?), arr. Southampton from NY
1897 Jul-Sep, Stoke Damerel, Devon -- Henry Woolcock (22) m. Annie Jane Morrish
Hannah Jane daughter of John and Hannah Jane Morrish b. Illogan 1877. (Why get married in Devon?
Did they elope?)
25 Sep -- arrival of Harry WORLCOCK (sic), 23, miner, married, US citizen, on ship Paris from
Southampton to NY, last residence Plymouth.
(Annie must have come too; son Gordon would have been conceived around end of April 1898.
But I cannot find her in the passenger list, or in any other list for 1897 or 1898.)
