Hi Everyone, Back again with a few family histories. Today's puzzle is the above named Kitty Arthur who married Edward Henry Richards March 1861 in Helston, Breage, Germoe. Ithink she was born April 1844 but can't prove that. She comes up in records with the first names Margaret or Mary or Margaret Jane or even Kitty. Her Banns were 1860 Germoe OPC [ecord 31390 in the Banns database]. Her marriage record lists her last name as. ARTHER, Mary , Helston, 5c, 305. ://www.freebmd.org.uk/. The 1861 Census has the family in Germoe. Kitty is listed as Mary. Jenefer Richards, Edward's mother, is living with them. Her children's baptism records have her as Margaret, Margaret Jane or Mary.most of the children were born in Tresowas.
I have no idea who her parents were.
Am I looking in the wrong places?
Thanks!
Carla

Good morning
In the 1851 census there is a Mary Arthur at Germoe, aged 11 years, therefore born about 1840 which is a more likely age for a marriage in 1861 to Edward Henry Richards. The parents of this Mary are William and Elizabeth Arthur. This date for Mary's birth also agrees with the 1861 census, where she appears with her husband and also mother in law Jenefer Richards, where she is listed as being aged 21 years, and likewise 31 years in the 1871 census.
At the GRO website a search shows a Mary Arthur born in the March quarter of 1840 in the district of Helston and the mother's surname is PASCOE.
Now go back to parents in the above 1851 census (William and Elizabeth) and there was a marriage between William Arthur and Elizabeth Pascoe in 1829 at Breage, the bride being from Germoe. In that same 1851 census Mary's eldest sibling was Samuel Arthur born in 1833.
Go forward now to the 1871 census and Edward and Mary are still at Tresowes, Germoe, but with three children. One of these children is 2 year old Samuel A. Richards. When you look for him at the GRO site you find Samuel Arthur Richards, born Helston district, September quarter 1868, mother's surname ARTHUR.
It would be fair to suggest, that unless there is a more likely candidate, that this is your family.

Ah, Samuel Arthur Richards is Craig's 2nd Great Uncle born in Germoe! This family naming pattern matches his family and everything is falling into place now that I have information to go by. Thank you for parsing this out for me! That birth date for her works out better than the guess I made.
What is the GRO website? That is very valuable information.
Ah, finally I have found her birth record, because of your input. Thank you very much for your time!

Good evening
The GRO is the General Register Office here in the UK and it is the place where you would order copies of any of the certificates found on the FreeBMD site. You can create a logon to the GRO site and then you are able to search through their records in lots of 2 years at a time... search is limited to births and deaths but the value is in the fact that all the births show the mothers maiden name and all the deaths show the age of the deceased. It is a great step forward if you are looking to connect children to their respective parents. The link is: www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp
