Trying to find information about Waters, Pengelly, Ellis - in St. Buryan, St. Just, St. Levan and Sennen areas. Also - Enoch and Betsy Tonkin, who went to Adelaide in 1839/40 on the Java - want to trace them back in St. Buryan. Any ideas - I am so new to this!!

Hiya Azoulay,
Welcome to the site. I've found a good bunch of people on here ready to help. I have Waters in St Levan, and Ellis's in St Just/Sennen. Let me have some more info and I'll see what I can turn up for you.
Regards, Mike Angove

Hi also from Cornish Terrier. I agree with Mike - let us have a few more details to work from and we will see what we can find. If you can give me a few specifics about the South Australian connections I 'may' be able to help a little. I have access to the South Australian BDM Index so I might be able to find something for you. This index is not as good as the Victorian one as far as added information is concerned but I can certainly take a look at it for you and see what might be found. And please tell me a little more about Enoch Tonkin.

You may want to check this but I think the pair you are looking for are: Enoch Tonkin (c1791 St Levan) and Betsey Hutchens(c1793) who married at St Levan in 1823, their daughter Amelia was baptised 1826 in St Levan. His father was Richard (c1772) who married Honor Guy. Richard was son of Enoch (c1740) who married Constance Jelbard(c1737 - 1823). Their other offspring were: Ann 1774, Constance 1776 and Enoch 1781 - 1849, whose grandson (also Enoch) married Honor Humphrys - my gt-gt-aunt! Mainly sourced from West Penwith Resources and Cornwall Online Census Project. Hope this helps. Lesley

Lesley - 'londoner' - I do have to remember this. Very good input and I will try and keep track of this conversation to see how things go. Will, of course, add my own thoughts but have to keep things brief just now.
