Thanks, can you give me a bit more on John's 1857 parentage to be able to put in my database.
Found out a bit more, At his death in Vic in 1935 in Ballarat, parents John and Mary Hosking. OPC has a marriage for John and Mary Hosking in 1852 in Lugvan son of John G, blacksmith. Closest for the father John in the Census for John G, Blacksmith is in 1851 Village Of Halsetown St Ives with Mary and 4 children born St Ives including John G born circ 1831 So need to find a marriage for this John to Mary? abt 1841 census has a john born circ 1831 with parents john 1811 blacksmith, and wife eliza 1811 in ludgvan with 4 childen including john 1831.
Which is where it all stops. Too many possible bapts for the John 1811, and marriages for John and Elizabeth.

I think that is the wrong John - well according to me anyway :-) I have this John (b1857) being buried in 1908 at Maryborough, Victoria - son of John Glasson (c1824) and Mary Jane Medlan who were married in 1853 in Redruth.
The latter John (c1824) was the son of John Penhalle Glasson and Honor Bishop.

Thanks, now have them slotted in. Did they marry in UK or USA, (John and Mary Jane Medlin) and were any other children of theirs who emigrated to Australia?

John Glasson married Mary Jane Medlan on the 4th July 1853 at Redruth. Both John and Mary Jane died after 1861 and before the 1871 census.

There were only two children as far as I have ascertained. The second, Elizabeth, was born in 1862 at Redruth and died in the same year.

When John and Mary Jane emigrated to the US, who were the children? Seems unlikely they could be Mary Janes, she wld have been 12 at the birth of the eldest. Possibly John's siblings? Jane 1838 Catherine 1842 Joseph 1844.

Yes they were John Glasson's siblings - remembering that their parents John Penhalle Glasson and wife Honour died in 1851 and 1852 respectively.
