Hello all, Just posting my interest in the Giles family. I have as my earliest ancestor Nicolas Giles who married Paskes Edwards abt.1648 in Morvah and had five children Thomas b 10.2.1654 who married Mary . They had five children Thomas b 1654, Mary bAbt.1655 , Richard bt.1655, James bAbt.1660 and Elizabeth bAbt.1664. Thomas married Mary date unknown, Mary married Richard Roberts 30.4.1674, and Elizabeth married Edmond Edwards in 1674 Wondering if others may be able to fill in some of the blanks and perhaps have knowledge of their descendants. I am descended from Thomas and have a reasonably complete line from him. mjm

Hi. I was born Christina Giles, and I am descended from the Giles' of Morvah also, so hello cousin! I was born in Australia, but was lucky enough to visit Cornwall a couple of years back. What a beautiful part of the world, but rather windy. Anyway, I can also trace back to Nicholas Giles and Paskes Edwards via Thomas Giles (b 1653, Morvah). My ancestor was their youngest son Joseph (b 1695, Morvah), who was given a property in Sancreed in Thomas' will and proceeded to marry Elizabeth Angwin in St Just, and have numerous children in Sancreed, including my ancestor Henry ( born 1736, Sancreed). I won't go into too many more details for now, but was very pleased to see your post. Have you been able to trace Nicholas and Paskes back any further? I can fill you in with more details of my side if you are interested. Cheers for now, Christina

Well, Well, Well. Fancy that, another cousin in Australia it's amazing to me how many of us are now together in this country. I too am descended from Henry Giles and Hannah Trembath through their eldest son Henry (b 1764)and married Mary Daniel in 1793. And then from their son Joseph (b 1799) and married to Nanny Nicholas in 1821. My information has Henry & Hannah with four children my Henry, then Hannah (b 1767), Joseph (b 1769) and Thomas (b 1774) I wonder from which of these your line descends ? Unfortunately I cannot give you any information beyond Nicholas & Paskes but would like to hear from you especially as we are both Aussies. now. Malcolm

Hi again Malcolm, I think half of Cornwall must have come over here! Well, we do share ancestors in Henry (born 1764) and Mary Daniel. My ancestor was their youngest son, John, born 1803. He married Ann Giles of Morvah (a cousin, I think) in 1826 in Zennor. They had around nine children, born in Gulval and Paul (near Penzance); including my ancestor Henry (born 1835), who travelled to Australia in 1855. Prior to travelling here, the family were on a farm in Castallack. I reckon Henry travelled over here as he was the second son and therefore would not have inherited the farm. He actually kept his boat ticket, I guess he wanted to make sure no one thought he was a convict! He farmed around the Port Arlington area of Victoria for some decades. Although it looks like our ancestors were farmers for centuries, I don't seem to have inherited any interest in it at all. I currently live in Canberra and am married to a diplomat (who also has Cornish ancestors), so we live overseas from time to time. Cheers Christina
